Maybe the biggest reason is to make the Challenger unique in offering a stick. There may have been some concern as to how well it would sell, so the availability of the manual trans was part of differentiating it from the Charger.

It's not jut a drop-in - as a "for instance", floor pan design for Challenger had to change from Charger in order to accommodate Amish shift linkage.

Stuff like differential mounts also had to change to survive the shock-loading potential of the Tremec trans.

Nobody was lazy - they had to feel there was a business case for it. Offering manuals is getting to be a more difficult proposition to justify as each year passes. The number of potential customers is dwindling.

This is a sad case. But true. I'd like to think there were a whole team of engineers who were practically begging Chrysler brass to approve a manual for the Charger Hellcat, but the honchos stubbornly refused. Because business.

Well,....they do call it "The car bidnest", not "Charity Motors", nor "Seriously Over-the-Top Hobby".

You can lose money one something if it gets you money somewhere else, like Ford losing money on Escort in North Hammerica for years, but getting them enough fuel smileage credits to allow sales of Crown Victorias (with high prophet margarines)

Thing is, you gotta have a good case that money will be coming in.

Here Kitty, Kitty , Kitty!
“Due to unprecedented demand for the 2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats,” the company said in a statement, “we are temporarily restricting orders while we validate current orders that are in the system.”

Dodge brand head Tim Kuniskis told Automotive News last week that the company had received more than 9,000 orders. That’s double the annual sales for which FCA had planned. Dealers started taking orders in September.

When 707 HosePressures just doesn't cut it.....

Hennessey Hellcat hits 852 hp"The Hennessey version of the Hellcat dials up the horsepower rating to 805 hp, presumably for Bond villains who suspect they could at one point be pursued by stock Hellcats...... If 805 hp is still a bit mild for you, there is the option of the HPE850, which has been tuned to produce 852 hp. This upgrade package includes all the gizmos of the HPE800 but adds a ported supercharger housing (in case you expect to be pursued by stock HPE800s in a Michael Bay movie)."

Late to the party, but how does the black key/red key thing work? What if both are in the car?

Does Dodge still require the active key in the ignition without push button start?

Answer from the guys I thought most likely to know:

You don't insert a key anywhere. Key fob in your possession is all that is required.

How does it know which one if you have both in your pocket?

Widebody Challenger from Demon Available on Hellcat

The new SRT Widebody is 3.5 inches bigger at the fender flares than the standard Challenger. That leaves room for the 20-by-11-inch “Devil’s Rim” split five-spoke wheels wrapped with fat 305/35 Pirelli P Zero tires.

Dodge says, and we’re excited to test, that the Widebody dropped 2 seconds per lap on a 1.7-mile road course, good for 13 car lengths with the wider rubber. Quarter-mile time goes down by three-tenths at 10.9 seconds, while 0-60 time drops by 0.1 to 3.4 seconds. Lateral grip is also improved by 0.04 g.
