They are going to recreate that in a few years as the with the blank being to the left of 1 through 6 and say it's not zero or something.

The answer is:
6

The answer is NOT:
6!

6! is 6x5x4x3x2x1, or 720.

50% off for rewards members at the Pick n Pull this weekend. I found a set of American Racing wheels that I'd like to get. They usually don't put vehicles in the yard with wheels, but these had lug locks. My photo doesn't show it well but they're tapered. I was able to turn three of them with my beefiest vise grips, using a big channel lock to close the vise grips hard. The fourth is a tougher nut to crack; I bent my beefiest Vise Grip brand vise grips using a pipe on the handle to try to close them tighter. Ran out of time and tools...going back in the morning.

They're not the hardest steel around. My vise grips dug in and shaved off some steel rather than losing their teeth.

Any thoughts?

I'm gonna bring:
- Pipe wrench
- Cordless drills (including right angle drill) with lots of batteries and lots of 1/8" titanium and cobalt drill bits and a couple sets of titanium bits
- Cold chisels
- More vise grips and cheater pipes
- Gimmick-grip socket
- BFH and large deep sockets to hammer on

Gonna try the pipe wrench first, then maybe the gimmick socket, then I'll start putting as many 1/8" holes in it as I can, then try pipe wrench/gimmick socket/vise grips again, then cold chisel.

1/8" bits (of which I have many, and they're very good, and tough) should sit inside the key pattern nicely and I should be able to cross them in different directions, and also the right angle drill should be able to get a few holes into the circumference where the regular drill can't. Once it's swiss-cheesed, a cold chisel should break it into pieces, and cranking down the vise grips might squeeze flats into it.

Or I could go to Auto Zone and invest in a locking lug nut remover. At the price I'll pay for these wheels it would be a good investment. However, it requires an impact wrench, which will not be an option at the junkyard.

I wish I had a sufficiently large rounded bolt remover, but my set doesn't include any that big.

You looked in the glovebox, under the seats, over by the jack, etc for the wheel lock tool?

Yup.

I think the guys who were supposed to remove the wheels before putting the vehicle out in the yard were pretty thorough in their search for it too. The glovebox was ripped out of the dash...

Impact tools and wheel lock removers are not friends. Wheel lock removers should always be used with hand tools. At least the good sets. Id be scared to use mine with my impact gun. I just use this: http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/produ ... TCHET-GRN/

The ones that I saw on Auto Zone's web site say on the package that impact wrench is required, though one review indicated success with a breaker bar.

$251 ratchet is way, way, way beyond anything I could reasonably buy as a hobbyist. Harbor Freight's telescoping 1/2" ratchet treats me well, though a flex head could be useful sometimes. I generally wouldn't want to haul either one into the junkyard in my backpack though, gotta be conscious of weight. I have a perfect thick-wall aluminum pipe to use as a cheater...it's lightweight and slips over a standard ratchet with no excess clearance. Turns out it also slips over the thicker handle on a 10" Vise Grip brand vise grip perfectly too, and reasonably enough on the thinner handle where the release lever is.

Anyway, I went with a truckload of tools and plans, and my dad. First try was a pipe wrench, and despite the deep dish RWD offset dad was able to get enough bite with it to do the job.

Then Pick n Pull wanted to charge me WAY more than I expected. They're having a 50% off sale for rewards members this weekend, but apparently it doesn't apply to wheels.
*Disclaimer: 50% off the regular price on parts the customer pulls from yard vehicles, with these exceptions: the discount offer and/or sale pricing does not apply to sales tax, State fees, commercial or industrial purchases, "core" charges, environmental fees, set of 2 or set of 4 tires, wheel and tire sets, racked and stacked tires, steel & aluminum wheels, and batteries-including Pick-n-Pull batteries.
I asked the manager if there's anything she can do for me. She said the only reason those wheels were out in the yard was that they couldn't get them off; I said "Yeah, wouldn't you want to reward someone who is awesome enough to do that job?" and, after I chewed on it for a few minutes trying to decide, she knocked a chunk off the price and my dad ended up buying them for me at an acceptable price.

Cow, to paraphrase, it's good to hear that not all good deeds are punished.

This reminds me of the judge who gave a light sentence to the man who was convicted of murdering BOTH of his parents because, after all, he was now an orphan.

So, when you got the wheels home, you found they were the wrong bolt circle, right?

Manager said "no returns" after knocking the price down for me, so that would be a real bummer, but I won't be able to test-fit until April when I take off the winter wheels/tires. However, it is a sure thing that they'll fit. They are American Racing aluminum wheels off a 1994 S-10 2WD; my existing, similar American Racing aluminum wheels were also off a 1994 S-10 2WD. The truck didn't give any indication of even minor modifications other than aftermarket wheels, so it's incredibly unlikely that the dude managed to change the hubs to some with a different bolt circle.

Worst case scenario I should be able to resell them for the amount dad paid.

...so I wrote up this post, then before submitting it I went off to facebook to look for a photo I posted the other day, but now (after reading the latest Obama wrecking stuff and sabotaging his successor on the way out story) I can't remember why. Anyway, here's a photo of the Buick hauling two bargain clearance freezers home.
