Re: What are you?
My grandmother from my mother's side was born in the Finnish Karelia and her family was relocated to Southern Finland after the region was handed over to the Soviet Union after the Winter War. I don't know about her parents, but I'm pretty sure the roots are deep in the Finnish soil. Her husband, my grandpa that is, was born in Finland. I'm not sure about his family either, but my mom said that during the early 1900s they changed their family name from Swedish to Finnish. Of course that doesn't mean anything since many Finnish families have family names of Swedish origin. So, the conclusion is that I'm Finnish from my mother's side.
Since I was given a traditional Finnish first name after my father's father's father, who also gave me my great family name which means "scrap metal" in Finnish, I can assume they are all Finnish. However, my grandma from father's side complicates things a bit. For example, she no longer knows how to pronounce her maiden name. I know that she comes from Karelia as well, but I have no idea how deep in Russian Empire she was born. I am, however, pretty sure that she's not ethnic Russian, but of one of those smaller... err... tribes?
So, I guess I'm 75% Finnish and 25% of some random hunter-gatherers from the Russian frontier that have almost disappeared after decades of oppression and assimilation attempts by the Soviet Union...
And my car is from Germany even though the badge is American.

Lol, Brianna. At the NUMMI plant. Fremont, California, which has since closed down IIRC1974Alfa5spd wrote:Who was made in California? You or Brianna?94Corolla5Speed wrote:Romanian, with a Japanese car, made in California.

Scratch that. Apparently it still exists.
It was the 190,126th Corolla of my generation from that assembly plant. Made in May of 94.
