Re: Did you build your own computer?
I did not. I'm really a noob to computers beyond usage. I want to learn though, and build my next computer. There's no way I'm going to drop an ass-ton more money than I need to on my next computer.

Do you have any idea how awesome it would be if you could build your own laptop? That would be sooooo awesome!paul34 wrote:I hope I never have to buy a pre-built computer again, except for a laptop maybe.

Re: Did you build your own computer?
I used to build my own all the time. Eventually the novelty of paying more to do the work myself wore off. FFS, you can get a decently equipped laptop for $400 or less these days.

Re: Did you build your own computer?
yea its not worth it.... well laptops anyways. building comps are easy as pissing these days. You can save a couple hundred $$ building your own... but add the shipping for all the parts and its barely worth it...

Re: Did you build your own computer?
I bought local, so shipping was me going to the store to get it. I saved a good chunk of money that way.
also to reiterate, it's pretty hard to fck up building a computer now, which is why mine turned out fine \
Asus laptops look really good, my friend has one and it's amazing, very sleek, and has a bit of carbon fibre design on it.

Re: Did you build your own computer?
i've built my last two computers.
i end up spending more money but the technology (somewhat) lasts for a longer time and i don't have to replace my computer for a long time.
@ the asus laptops: they're great specs wise and i've used nothing but asus mobos for my desktop PCs but 90% of the asus laptops that we sold at best buy a year+ ago when i worked there were returned within a month from motherboard and BIOS issues. i'm hoping that their newer models are doing better considering that they're a great company.

Re: Did you build your own computer?
I bought my first PC in 1995 and since then I've upgraded every part many times bit by bit. I've probably gone through 7 or 8 disk upgrades and graphics cards, 6ish CPU/mobo/RAM upgrades, 4ish monitors but I think only 3 cases - my current Aluminium Lian-Li has lasted around 8 years. I haven't changed anything since May 2005 but I don't play the latest games so haven't felt the need since then.
Oh and before anyone asks, I got my last UK employer to ship it over when I moved since I continued to do some work for them until I got a job here.

Re: Did you build your own computer?
Read your motherboard manual.
It will run it in dual channel if your mobo says it will.
I think it should run it in dual channel. If it doesn't then the manufacturer is stupid.

My friend got the G1, and I'm not sure which ones are sold at best buy, I haven't seen any of them around. I mostly replace failed hardware in hand-me-downs. It's been years since I've bought a complete computer or set of hardware.
The machine I'm on now got a new mobo, processor, power supply, and Linux to work correctly.

Re: Did you build your own computer?
now I'm curious to see everyone's case's.
here's a video of my case, it has a loud and gimicky door thing. It looks pretty slick otherwise.
