That was totalled 10 months ago. I am keeping the Fusion and getting it fixed. I have collision insurance and it sounds like they are willing to fix it.

Insurance estimates $4,600 to fix it.

Yuck. Sorry to hear that silver lightening went ATM with another person. Is that a borked truck pan than I see, or something more complicated? The other guy coming up with such a ridiculous story cemented his culpability to the accident firmly into place. Though the translation "I was on my phone and not paying one whit of attention" would have done the same.

Glad you seem to be okay.

Yeah I am fine, and he totally did have a completely frost covered windshield... I saw it. There is no way he should have even left his driveway the way it was. You couldn't have seen anything out of that windshield.

And yes, that picture is of the underbody pan. It is messed up pretty badly.

This one is going to get repaired. Thankfully the crash test dummy ran his car under the corner of the Fusion or it would have been worse for the Fusion. CkutchDisc needs a tank or something. Before this the Focus was totalled last year by a lady stopping crossways in the middle of rush hour traffic while making an illegal turn. Before that a lady cut off the S10 in a roundabout and then slammed on the brakes to make a turn, so the front right of the S10 is mangled. Before that the S10 slid off the road in an ice storm and stopped just before it would have gone over a headwall where it would have dropped 10 or more feet down into a ditch (a tank would not have helped there).

I was rear ended three times in my life and always when I had full sized pickup trucks so the step bumpers just didn't care that the car which hit me had its lights and grill all smashed out and I was able to just go on my merry way without a care.

Sounds like Disc was born under a bad sign.

ClutchDisc sold me the S10 back when he bought the Focus. He hated to see it go out of the family. At that time I was so frustrated with the Ranger's clutch hydraulics problems I was happy to make the switch. Now I love the S10 and would not go back to the ranger. The Ranger's 2.3L 16-valve DOHC 4-popper was a blast, but it did lack bottom end. I notice the old pushrod 4-banger in the S10, even though about 20 less hp and 20 less torque has way more engine braking than the Ranger had. I think in a race the Ranger would win, but the S10 is way more fun to drive. Here is a quote that illustrates the point.

"Many hot compact cars are quicker than big-block muscle cars were in the sixties, but today's turbocharged four-cylinder power is different from the torque monsters of yore. New cars are so techically advanced that the driving experience is more subdued than the old physical style of driving."

I can't resist posting this video (I guess there is just no way to make a video actually appear on this site):

I only ever drove a 96 Ranger with the 2.3 and THAT thing was a dog. If you so much looked at a mild hill in 5th gear you were fucockte and had to go into 3rd. I would have been scared to drive that thing with an autotragic.

That's exactly what I was thinking of.

I used to remember the changes that had to be made to embed a YouTube on the site, but I've forgotten.

That was the old 2.3. Not sure what the camshaft set up was, maybe rubberband driven OHC. For a while they even had dual spark plugs per cylinder in some screwball attempt to make the engine put out half-decent power. They also had a pushrod 2.3 at least in the Escort, not sure if the Ranger had that. One of the first verhicles ClutchDisc looked at was a ratty Ranger, think late 90s, it ran but it was a real beater with cracked windshield, mildew on the dashboard, other issues I can't remember.

The mangle was limited to the front right. The two truck driver hooked up and pulled it out enough to get the fender off the tire, so ClutchDisc could drive it home. Then we cut some away to make more clearance for the fender opening. We added a couple big zip ties to hold the headlight and cracked grill parts from flipping and flopping around and that was 2+ years ago and I still am driving it with the zip ties.

I had the bed of the S10 filled today with a snowblower, weights set, weights bench, several boxes, and the truck ran great. I always found that pickups run better and feel better hauling some kind of load.
