New member, Philadelphia - bought first standard trans car.
Hey guys
I really like the community here and had to join up. I learned about Standardshift on E90post, a BMW owner's forum.
I just bought my first standard transmission car, a new 2011 BMW 335i coupe. Here's some pics on E90 post:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=513225
6 speed short-throw shifter, 300HP twin-scroll turbo inline 6 (300lb/ft @ 1200-5000RPM). Its a beast.
Ratios:
I: 4.11
II: 2.32
III: 1.54
IV: 1.18
V: 1.00
VI: 0.87
R: 3.70
Been driving stick for 2 weeks and I love it. My shifts are fluid and it feels natural to drive around now. I found the shifting and clutch control weren't the hard part - it was getting used to the throttle. It feels natural now. I've learned to blip the throttle on downshifts and can do it with minimal shift shock (5>4, 5>3, 4>3, 4>2, 3>2, shifting down so that I pick up the next gear down at 3k). EXTREMELY gratifying to get a perfect downshift.
I learned on an old S-10 5 speed and a Jeep Liberty 6MT. I've been lurking here for a week and reading a lot - glad to see I wasn't doing anything bad like riding the clutch, etc.

Welcome! Your car looks amazing, you should copy some of the image links here so we can all enjoy it. The E90 3 series is truly a beautiful car.

A late welcome; what a nice ride!
I've wanted an E46 330i ever since driving one in England a few years ago. I was blown away by it. And the E90s are probably bounds above the E46!
Your car is a dream come true I'm sure, congrats!

Wow, how did I miss this thread? Did you post another "new car" thread? I'm sure I saw one somewhere on the forum...
BTW, what's the general consensus on the Bimmer forums of the new single-turbo engine replacing the twin-turbo (was it twin or sequential?) engine? I know the new engine makes the same power & torque as the old engine, but the torque comes on at an even lower RPM. So I'd guess that most guys don't mind losing a turbo unless it somehow hurts performance at the top end.

People seem to be indifferent about the change unless you talk to the hard-core modders. You can get a lot more out of the N54 twin turbo at current (one of the reasons being, it has been around much longer) w/ ECU tunes/meth/upgraded turbos/etc. Couple of guys on E90post are pushing 425-450HP and getting 11s on the drag.
Same here. Since I've been driving the Bimmer for almost three months now ... there is no going back.RITmusic2k wrote:Yes indeed - 330i ZHP - my first of inevitably many Bimmers, I suspectCharles421 wrote:Thanks!

I've done a number of mods since I got the car, mostly cosmetic except for the latest one. I purchased a BMW Performance exhaust and will be getting it installed in the coming weeks. I'll get a vid and pics when it's done. Can't wait.

Welcome!
I am really loving your new BMW! Looks just like a fine Bavarian gem!
Also, you just happen to live nearby; I live in Chester, which is basically next to Philly!
Respect, man!

Hello to you too! Nice car!!! I am with you on how satisfying a perfect downshift is. I've improved so much since I started, it's great. I'm glad you're enjoying it too.
