I would have to agree. American race car drivers (IRL excluded) just arnt up to par with European or even asian drivers. I'm not trying to piss any one off, but going around in a cirlcle all afternoon has no comparison to an F1 or Touring style race where you have to hit every turn slowing down from 300kph+ then pefectly executing the turn to get maximum speed off the exit. IF they miss 1 turn they lose the race. ALL while hitting every shift perfectly.
I love to take on cars that I would normally have no chance against. When you learn to launch a manual properly miracles can happen. Ive beaten a lot more powerful cars juss coz I got off the line so much better than them (my accords first gear tops out at 45-50). Just the other day I beat a rsx-s up until 90kmh because he bogged down at the start. Not to mention the dozens of civics Ive beaten.

Beating other cars
My Saab isn't that great off the line, but once the turbo kicks in in 2nd gear, other cars get surprised, especially since my car is a hatch/wagon, and it says a measly 2.0 T liters on the back. I once had a good run with a Maxima automatic but let him go when his lane ended. I did beat a PT Cruiser on the on-ramp, but I'm not sure if he had the turbo or not. The worst part about racing to get on the highway is that you grequently have to slow down once you get on the highway to find your slot.
The problem with power (or torque) is that if you have it, you'll use it.

I would never race a porsche if I was in that class.(which I will be when I get my car, or probably a class of slower vehicles)Blackstone wrote:Well you're competing with Civics, Corollas, Focus, Sentras, and Jettas. Your 0 to 60 is rated at about 7.4 seconds, which is about the same as those other cars. In a manual it'll probably come down to the better driver in those cases, and you can probably easily take any of them if they are autos. I wouldn't go up against a more performance tuned 4 cylinder though, like an RSX or a front engined 4 cylinder Porsche (the ones that look like Integras).
