Re: Shiftless on a Motorcycle
Illinois requires you to pass a written and driving test. the written test I passed the day after I downloaded and skimmed the study guide. the driving test is just low speed maneuvers in the parking lot and from the half dozen or so people I know that have taken it, mostly based on the testers mood...

Re: The Most Reliable Motor Vehicle I Know Of 1988 Toyota Pickup
pretty much anything toyota from the 80s will last like that. except a 86+ supra and 89+ cressida both with the 3l L6 that blows head gaskets every few years. heck, I've got a 90 cressida with that engine and the engine's got almost 200k with only one BHG I know of. Supras/cressidas with the 2.8l L6...

Re: firebird 16", mustang 17" wheels w/ tires
The decision to buy is in the hands of the buyer. I'm aiming to sell the rims, the tires are just attatched. if the buyer wants them to be removed it can be arranged. I mention they're old cause I bet they're older than 6 years. I haven't checked DOT numbers but if someone cares enough to want me to...

Re: Grinding Reverse
*Usually* you don't do that kind of driving in a car with ABS/traction control. Nissan FWD 5 speed, 90 and newer synchronize reverse. infinity G20s, Nissan Sentras, and the like. Toyota RWD (W5x and R15x series I know for sure) use a sliding idler. No brake yet I've never ground it no matter how qui...

94 geo prizm...aka toyota corolla. yes you can pull the codes without a scanner. find the diagnostics connector in the engine bay. it'll be near the top probably near one of the strut towers or intake manifold. it'll have 15 or 20 terminals in it and look like a plug into nothing with a cover over i...

throttle by wire will prevent any damage.
TBW FTL. had to say it.
I drive my truck under idle speed all the time in pretty much any gear. 4th is really sluggish but hte other 3 are fine. 950 idle, I'll stay with it down to 600ish

Re: When playing car video games, do you choose Auto or Manual?
My GFs dads firebird does 55 in 1st at not even 6 grand!! (it needs shorter diff tho: 55+ in 1st, barely 2k rpm @ 80 mph in 6th). Now that's the kind of gearing I want! early T56 6-speed, .5:1 OD with a 3.9-ish rear end. Redline of 2nd gear is at about 60 mph for all my cars. I can remember driving...

Re: Getting a conversion
like holycow said, lots of custom work involved since neither car was available in any chassis version (other GM brands using the same chassis) or trim had manual trans. you'd almost have to go back and find one of the Z-whatever number caveliers with a 5 speed dohc v6 IF it's the same block as the ...

Re: Suspension swap costs.
You mean just the shocks or the whole thing? Shocks can come by at a decent price, and they're pretty easy to install. It depends on cost an effect, if I can get a decent increase in ride comfort with just shocks, I'd do it, if replacing all of it is going to be like a thousand dollars I guess I'll...

Re: [accident]lost control and skidded along a highway concrete
Don't drive stupid LOL I did a 180 entering the tollway a few weeks ago. hit the change in pavement bump at the bottom of the ramp at 60+ and the ass wagged a couple times came around front. Then did a J-turn and kept going. luckily without hitting anyone/thing. michelin energy mxc4 tires in the rai...

Re: Auto slipping out of gear???
+1 for fluid level low or time for a new box. sounds exactly like when I burst a ATF cooler hose and it drained. rev it up and it builds enough pressure in spite of aeration to hold the gear clutchpacks but if not, you go nowhere fast like you're in neutral.
