Re: Interesting Phenomena

So,...when you disengage the clutch and move the shifter, does it feel like it is shifting normally? Should take some amount of force to overcome the shift detent and slide the synchro hub from in-gear to Neutral and again from Neutral to another in-gear position. Hey, what happens when you leave th...

Re: when to replace a clutch?

The clutch slips because it cannot handle what the engine dishes out. It is design to handle the engine's torque, not the engine's torque after the transmission multiplies it. If you floor it in 1st gear with a bad clutch, it will slip because of the engine's torque. You just won't notice it becaus...

Re: Hello from NY

FDSpirit - Welcome to the forum. Lonely corners of parking lots are great places to develop muscle memory as to where that friction point is where the clutch starts to engage: 1)Nobody else around you, so no pressure if you stall; 2)You can practice over and over in a short time; 3)You might even fi...

Re: The new camaro

You folks have gotten way off track. Go back to the "Some folks like red cars and some like blue" post. That's where this forum started to become nonsense, because EVERYBODY knows blue cars rule. Always have and always will. It's got nothing to do with turbos or displacement or curb weight. End of d...

I bet Inspector Clouseau couldn't say "Rev Limiter" if ees life depended on eet. I mean, if a guy can't even say a simple word like "Hamhocker"...

Re: got complained about up-shifting

I have noticed that the head-bobbing by passengers often seems exaggerrated. During the upshift, I am not slowing down at any appreciable rate, as their head motions would suggest. My hypothesis is that during acceleration the passengers automatically(without even realizing it) use their neck and u...

Re: got complained about up-shifting

'Constance Acceleration" is going to be one of the characters in that novel I'm going to write some day, along with "Manuel Transmission" and "Stan Dard"h Throw in a Woodruff Keyes and an Otto Madick, and I say you have a bestseller on your hands :P Otto Madick has to be a total dick, though. How c...

Re: No-gas through all the gears

Be careful if you've got a vehicle with a dual-mass flywheel. The flywheel damper can get torn to shreds if the flywheel goes into a harmonic vibration at low rpm (lower than normal idle speeds). This is something that the manufacturers can miss during vehicle development. Dual-Mass flywheels are fa...

Re: got complained about up-shifting

So why do passengers notice this so much and drivers not so much? Is it similar to not being able to tickle yourself? Is the driver so involved in the process that he anticipates the acceleration fluctuations and braces for them subconsciously?

Re: Soda? Pop? Whatever?

I fell while Rollerblading and used a Q-tip to put Neosporin on the cut. Covered it with a Band-aid, and ran inside for Kleenex. Then I got thirsty, so I pulled a Coke out of the Frigidaire, and sat down to watch a show I Tivo'd earlier. nice! you forgot to say that you took some Tylenol ...

Re: Soda? Pop? Whatever?

pop and what the f**k is bagged milk. how do you pour it. WTF You have to put the bag into a separate container and then cut off one of the corners. If you cut it wrong you'll either have a really skinny stream of milk that will take forever to fill the glass, too wide a stream and you'll over-fill...

Re: The new camaro

But the Dodge Challenger looks so much better. The Hemi RT or SRT versions are a lot of fun. My Charger RT Hemi got 27 MPG on a trip to Stratford, ONT and back. I'd expect the Challenger fuel mileage to be similar. Charger got out in the marketplace on time. Challenger barely got out there on time. ...

Re: Do yall ever accidentally hit both the gas and brake?

94Corolla5Speed - Does it do the same thing if you set the cruise when it's in gear and then slip it out of gear w/o using the clutch? Nice that we have rev limiters these days. I remember when there was nothing to cover up ones sins and if you sinned real bad the crankcase got ventilated, but we li...
