I see, but this image suggests there is some limitation on power band, but certainly a broad power band:

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
Kinda reminds me of the early VW Rabbit and/or Scirocco, in that they advertised 0-50 times rather than 0-60 times because: A) They had to do another shift to get to 60 B) They might confuse some folks into thinking they were comparing apples to apples instead of apples to oranges (compared to the ...

Re: Manuals you'll miss in 2019...
The difference is that the performance/efficiency tradeoff for saving the cost, weight, and complexity of a multispeed transmission with an ICE is crippling (so much so that the Model T was a two-speed), while the performance/efficiency benefit of adding the cost, weight, and complexity of a multis...

What Was the Final US-Market Car with a Two-Speed Transmission? Well, yeah, if you include slush-boxes,....... and they have to upshift and downshift automatically,.....1973 Chevrolet Nova. Anyone else here ever "Slip and Slide with a Powerglide"? https://www.autoweek.com/car-life/classic-cars/a355...

Re: Manuals you'll miss in 2019...
BMW WILL HAVE MANUAL TRANS IN NEW M3 & M4 And before we go, we’re pleased to report that manual transmissions are far from dead. BMW confirmed the new M3 and M4 will have a manual option. The less sporty versions of those cars no longer offer a manual because demand had fallen off. But for hard cor...

...but Honda is still keepin' it real under the hood! https://www.pressreader.com/usa/royal-oak-tribune/20200315/281784221163744 Very clever the sideways moving article vs scrolling down. Where is the under hood photo? Real under the hood IMO means no stupid plastic cover over the engine.

When I was a lad,......the school busses were Amish. I'm not totally certain, but I seem to recall that some or all ran on gasoline. That was changing and by the time I was in High School any newly purchased busses were slushbox diesels. Wooden sprise me if they had plans to purchase, or had alread...

...but you can expect higher shift efforts. Cold trans fluid clings to parts and makes it difficult for the synchronizers - that's just the way it is. Park your vehicle in a heated garage or get used to it. I have Redline MTL in the 2001 S10 tranny (not sure, but maybe it takes ATF), anyway if it i...

Yeah, what was it mostly snow for nearly 36 hours usually means a foot of snow around here. It looks like i got 2 to 2.5 inches. I shouldn't complain, but do anyway.Rope-Pusher wrote: ↑Thu Dec 17, 2020 10:42 amHey, How About Them Snowflakes?!!!

Re: Modern Amish Transportation
That 3-speed is my kind of car. The only caution is that you don't throw it into reverse on a 1-2 shift. That is where the 4-speed is better because it is a straight pull back for the 1-2 shift, which I suspect is going to be quicker than a push forward, even if the forward push was a straight path....

Re: Hypothetica Crankshaft Questionl
Whelp, to quote the folks at Hot Rod Magazine (Feb 1999): "...you buy horsepower but drive torque." "You need rpm for horsepower, but torque is the stuff that shoves you in the driver's seat and blows the tires away." My 2001 Ranger, wife's 2008 Mazda 5 both have the 2.3L modular DOHC 16 valve four ...

Hypothetica Crankshaft Questionl
All else equal, same number cylinders, same displacement etc, lets look at two strokes: 3 inch and 4 inch. So torque at the flywheel is measured at 1 foot from the center of the crankshaft for pound feet. So on a 3-inch crankshaft throw, we are only getting 1/3 the leverage compared to what we are r...
