Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

The heavy rain must have flooded burrows and drove the critters out. I had to dispatch a rat once and used the trap in a plastic bin with a hose, but didn't watch the show. I have a skunk in the neighborhood (got my dog a couple months ago too) and would like to dispatch the skunk but am wary of tr...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

We've been innundated with critters lately and would prefer to be outundated, so we set some live traps toward that end. Since yesterday morning, we've caught 3 squirrels, a rat, and last night we caught a raccoon. It was the weirdest thing. The raccoon trap was set on the lawn. We had a lot of rain...

Re: Modern Amish Transportation

The car I drove with 3otT was a 62 Chevy II. It was my first time behind the wheel of a car with an Amish transmission and Shirley I didn't know what I was doing. Then suddenly I get even stupider....but no, it was one of the linkage bushings popping out and my friend had to fish-around under the h...

Re: Modern Amish Transportation

Wow! That is really bad. If you pull it out of a gear then forget where you were, how will you know where to go? Guess one has to hold the shifter sideways or something. With only 3 forward gears, you've got less to keep track of. I've only driven a vehicle with this pattern once, a three on the tr...

This made me think of Tinton, he of the Corvette Brakes and power-boosted Pontiac Fieros. https://www.gannett-cdn.com/presto/2020/05/21/PDTF/a8496b64-6f36-464b-93b0-21654ce0b2e8-stanford_052120_kd1491.jpg?width=1280 Pontiac Fiero museum destroyed in flood We had a little too much rain, that dam wat...

Re: Dkaz’s rides

It's been a little quiet here lately unlike my suspension system, I figured I should contribute something. It's sad that after a short lived revival around the start of the last recession, the manual transmission is dying at an even quicker pace. Yea I'll just replace it all, well eventually. There...

Re: Dkaz’s rides

I put about 2,200 lb of cinder block in my old Mazda 5 lol. I've been averaging 27.5 MPG on my current 5 vs. 25 MPG on my old 2007. They did something in 08 to squeeze an extra 2 or 3 MPG out of the engine and while I was skeptical at first, the numbers are showing it. Not far off from the wife's M...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Very strange when the lawn mower is a bigger fuel sucker than the sports car. You must be driving the lawn mower too much. Do like me. I NEVER water. I Never fertilize, my lawn. Those two things just are work and make work. I have a diverse lawn of grass and other stuff so get about 2.5 months of s...

.......of course, if it's shown on top of the shift knob its viewing will probably be obstructed during shifts. Wow! That is really bad. Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

The price of gasoline has been going up each week for the last month. I paid $1.929 per gallon this morning, about $0.35 more than a month ago, but still less than what I was paying in February or early March. ......But it's a good thing, right? Demand is up because more folks are commuting to work...

Re: Modern Amish Transportation

The typical pattern is this, which works better for a find-em-and-grind-em, three-on-the-tree, than a floor shift. https://www.shifterdoc.com/productcart/pc/catalog/hurst-3-speed-knob-white-2_400_detail.jpg This shift pattern was so common that, under U.S.A. Federal Law, it is the only one that can...

IIHNBTD = If I Had Nothing Better To Do There is one better shift pattern because it avoids all possibility of a 1-2 shift turning into a 1-R-grind shift: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61LzqxN0FAL._AC_SL1500_.jpg The Getrag manual transaxle used in the PT cruisers with Turbo-Dies...

I got called to Chrysler's Chelsea Proving Ground one day to investigate why it wasn't possible to shift into 5th gear on a certain a minivan due to start testing. I got into the car and found that, with what otherwise seemed to be a well-functioning transmission, with properly-adjusted shift linkag...

Re: Give a Hoot - Don't Pollute Rev-Hang is our Friend

It's a sad thing that it appears VW has drifted far, far away from Fahrvergnügen.

Others somehow still seem to be able to do it better.
