Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

At 8:00am this morning, he crawled out of the tomb, er, I mean womb,....the youngest baby in the world! Now there are three young boys that I have to keep a vehicle with an Amish transmixer running for, so I can teach them how to tame a wild, bucking clutch pedal, when they get old enough, of cours...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

The new one Mazda3 has a pretty nice interior, definitely feels a step above even my Mazda6. That's to be expected since the new Mazda3 is all-new and not just a refresh. It feels solidly built, with a J-VIN too, and the materials are top notch. Haven't driven one though, so I can't comment, especi...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I thought ewe had an Escape with a 2.5. You'd be correct. The only difference was that car was new so I wasn't concerned with issues that might crop up. With the vehicles that she was initially looking at, I was concerned about her possibly buying somebody else's problem . you could have that probl...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Mom is looking at possibly trading her Focus because she does the Uber/Lyft thing. I'm steering her to a Fusion/ Escape with the 2.5/6AT as the simplest and most robust option. Steering her away from Nissan and the Hyundai/ Kia twins due to the engine's propensity to self-immolation. Is there anyth...

Re: Well I found the Focus replacement...

Rob, they offer fully free oil changes if I use 5W-20, but manufacturer recommends 0W-20. That's a $30 upcharge. My use cycle lately tends to be on the "severe" cycle in that short trips are more frequent. I now only work 9 miles from work, whereas before I worked 23 miles from work, and my car doe...

Re: Well I found the Focus replacement...

Is there anything to be said about ridiculously long OCIs sunch as the 20,000 mile change when using super deluxe special synthetics? As I recall Engineering Explained said even with additives synthetic oils still shouldn't go that long. that sounds like too long an OCI for motor oil. you'd want to...

Re: Well I found the Focus replacement...

So I have an update! Total cost to fix the Fusion is just under $2,500. I also got back my deductible from the other guy's insurance company. So I net gain $1,700! :) Car will be finished tomorrow! :D https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRTHei5hcK0BIijG0CniWJ6Ry0qiS7XWbdLo14xLdlbWP...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Was a Toyota auto show idiot. I wouldn't be surprised if the next gen midsizers from Toyota and Mazda were related somehow, especially since reports of the midsize market's doom are fast and heavy. Hoping Mazda come to their senses and offer a manual again on the Mazda6, mayhaps with AWD. yass yass...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I'm guessing they're thinking that they may as well leverage their partnership and save on development costs. For Mazda it's a no-brainer since they can get some volume and ride on Toyota's coattails. How many people who aren't in the know even realize they're driving a Mazda? I had a guy at the au...

Rob, I'm guessing it's more to do with his bride being unable to and uncomfortable learning to drive a manual. An auto just makes it easier to switch off.
Gotcha. Forgot about potentially needing to switch cars if he has the kids with him.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I have to say, after over 90k combined miles, I'm pretty much over the turbocharged motor deal for a DD vehicle. It's just...not worth it to me as a consumer. It's more complex, it's less reliable (in my experience) and while it wasn't costly out of pocket for me, I think it certainly has a high po...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

In a way, it’s a potential paradox with the turbo engines. You can potentially get significantly better mpgs than a comparable V6 or whatever the turbo replaced in a brand’s lineup, which is better for the long haul (long term / distance mpg gains more important than short term / distance), but the ...
