For some reason I love driving beaters, so long as they have a manual.
my first couple of cars were moar-oar-lest beaters, butt eye would've gotten better cars if i had had the means. forth car was decent (98 maxima), relatively speaking. replaced it with what some wood consider a beater (96 accord) but eye liked and thought had a timeless look and reliable overall (but was old and neglected when i got it). most of my cars after that were newer and in better condition, mostly from dealers. eye think eye mentioned it to BK before, but eye MIGHT consider, at least as a second car, coming out of Manuel retirement for a civic si, namely a 9th generation model with the sporty version of the K24. the earlier ones look like fun but lack the torque of the newer models, and the newer wons are turbo'd 1.5 litres without vtec (what were they thinking?!?). eye think the new generation si will have vtec though. a 2012-15 (preferably 2014-15) si would make for a nice weekend fun car. :D

Stop Draggin' my Car Around - CBC News Ottawa

"We actually have the ability to confiscate those vehicles and sell them," Mayor Jim Watson said Saturday.

"And I want to see them sold. I don't want the return to these people who've been causing such frustration and angst in our community."

The mayor told CBC News that Ottawa has that power due to the Emergencies Act, which was invoked by the federal government last week.

Watson said he's been pleased by the level of professionalism shown by law enforcement since officers began stepping up their efforts Friday to clear the protest. But he also said he worries about demonstrators who have been "taunting police, being completely irresponsible, and don't want to seem to leave."

(I think the Mayor meant to say ",...and don't seem to want to leave." This is what happens when you are required to speak en français half the time.)

It is, of course, worse if they started it, but it's plenty that there's a 100% chance they're making it burn faster, hotter, more destructively, and more dangerously. Most people just don't appreciate what makes Class D fires different.

3G SHUTDOWN AFFECTS MILLIONS OF MOTORISTS - Autoline Daily
3G used to be bleeding edge telephone technology. But now it’s obsolete and getting shut down. And that’s going to affect millions of vehicles built between 2010 and 2022 that rely on 3G connectivity. AT&T shut down its 3G operations in the U.S. on Tuesday, T-Mobile plans to shut them down between March and July, and Verizon will shut them down by December 31st. So drivers may no longer be able to connect their smartphones, use voice assistance or emergency services. The good news is a number of automakers are offering software fixes but some vehicles won’t be able to be updated at all.

https://www.wardsauto.com/industry-news ... s-vehicles

Giving cars internet connectivity has numerous upsides including over-the-air software and feature updates, real-time location and traffic data and future interactions with smart infrastructure. There is also the flipside that results from technology obsolescence.

As of Feb. 22, millions of cars no longer may be able to connect to the mobile data if the vehicle relies on the AT&T network. With 5G and even 6G networks on the way, other major mobile carriers also plan to shut down their 3G networks during 2022. The carriers want to free up bandwidth for 4G and 5G networks that are more efficient than 3G. T-Mobile plans to shut down its Sprint and T-Mobile 3G networks between March and July. Verizon will shut down its 3G “no later than Dec. 31.

Cars affected by this shutdown may lose the ability to update location and traffic data, connect to smartphones, voice assistants or emergency services. Other services can include automatic collision notification, music streaming, smart summon in a parking lot, remote control features through the vehicle’s mobile app, WiFi hotspot, and more.

Numerous vehicles built between 2010 to 2022 will be affected. This includes certain models from Acura (2014-2017), Audi (2012-2018), BMW, General Motors (2015 and newer), Honda (2018-2022), Lexus (2010-2018), Nissan (2011-2018), Porsche (2014-2021), Subaru (2016-2019), Tesla (pre-2015), Toyota (2010-2019), Volkswagen (2014-2019), Volvo (2015-2018).

Some OEMs have already sent software fixes to the vehicles that can be updated remotely. Others require end users to accept update prompts on the vehicle’s screen. Surprisingly, a few OEMs have not announced updates or upgrades to keep their vehicles connected.

Because of hardware used, some vehicles are not eligible for updates at all, meaning they cannot be upgraded to 4G. Some automakers will offer software and/or hardware fixes at their dealer service centers.

For example, Audi announced it is working with Silicon Valley-based startup Mojio on a hardware update to enable owners of affected vehicles to connect to 4G networks. Volkswagen is also working with Mojio to “provide vehicle owners with an intelligent device that easily plugs into their vehicles and allows them to keep automatic crash notification and SOS active despite the 3G shutdown.”

yeah, woulda bin nice to get a memo 10 years ago aboot this. "yeah, just so you know, we're gonna be phasing out this new 3g technology within 15 years - by then we'll have 4g and maybe even 5g technology supplanting this future dinosaur tech. best of luck!" luckily, we're on verizon (fore bettor ore four Wurst), so mom's dinosaur dumb phone should work til december. we are trying to figure out if she'll get another (overpriced) dumb phone, or an iphone. we're reminded almost daily that even an iphone is probably too smart for mom.

I was planning on going with an eyephone, but then I thought that those could become obsolete too and maybe more difficult to upgrade or replace.

Instead, I went with a mouth phone.
I'ts a lot easier to take off when I shower and there's plenty of room to go with a new battery pack, or to change-out the CPU.

Neither one is me.

There was a time I took a picture of the inside of my mouth and posted it here when someone asked for photos of our interiors.

They're just lucky that's the orifice I chose.

Either way, glad I missed that one.

The dentist has a freaky camera that takes a grotesque photograph of the inside of the mouth. Should I seek a copy and post it?
