The Prius is offered only with a CVT.

I think the list is flawed.

Where's the Civic HX? Honda listed it as 38/44. I'm sure it's better than the Cooper.

I think the new Prius gets even better MPG. It's like 60 city and 50 Hwy.

First off, the list appears to be based on 03 model year vehicles, and the HX for 03 was rated 32/38. Which, yes, probably should have put it on the list.

To add insult to injury, the Mini's numbers are wrong. Highway rating was 37.

Most likely, that was an oversight. They already had a Civic on the list and didn't notice the other model. It's still pretty close.

I was a little off. The HX is rated 36/44. It's the same engine since 01.

32/38 is for LX and EX.

is there a list anywhere of fuel economy numbers generated by someone other than the EPA or gov't in general? i've never driven a car that got in the range of their numbers, be it better or worse.

Unfortunately, the EPA numbers are about it. If a reviewer (be it a newspaper reviewer, a magazine reviewer, or you name it) drove the vehicle long enough to establish the mileage of the vehicle, they'll usually publish a "test mileage" which can be heavily skewed by where they're testing, driving style, and even how many miles are on the car.

I'm really surprised my Civic actually did better. EPA rated it 38mpg. I got close to 40 with only 3K on the odometer. It's winter and using reformulated gas. I wonder what kind of mpg I'll get in the summer?

manual are naturally saves fuel cause the driver can change the gears to their will... i read some automatic manual and they say that they are more efficent in saving gas.. bah.. there are also other factors... those posted are based on new car right?
