If 0-60 takes nearly 12 seconds,.........
NEW VW E-UP! GETS LARGER BATTERY, INCREASED RANGE
Volkswagen is getting ready to introduce a new version of the electric e-up! Battery size was increased significantly. It’s going from 18.7 kWh to 32.3, which returns a driving range of 260 km or about 161-miles. A 61-kW electric motor helps move the e-up! to 100 km/h in about 12-seconds, which is pretty pokey. Despite the larger battery pack, the new car is less expensive than the outgoing model. It now costs about 21,000 euros. VW says it’s able to offer that low price because of high production volumes.

If you're driving an old VW Beetle that doesn't require fuel,.....
...and still isn't a tire-scorcher......
VW PROVIDES EV KIT FOR CLASSIC BEETLES
And one way it’s increasing production volume is by offering the e-up! as a conversion kit for classic Beetles. The components are supplied to VW’s partner eClassics which performs the conversion. You get a Beetle that can go 0 to 80km/h in about 8-seconds, which is pretty pokey. It will travel 200 kilometers or roughly 124-miles on a charge. VW is also working on an electric conversion for the Bus and says it could do a Porsche 356.

Funny, but if you stand behind the vehicle and open the "Hood", you won't be able to read that VW emblem on the powertrain cover.

That 0-60 number is pretty pokey by most standards, but a wild improvement over the original drivetrain in most of them...

you done read my mind. 8 seconds isn't TOO bad for an economy car though...IMBoring25 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2019 10:50 pm That 0-60 number is pretty pokey by most standards, but a wild improvement over the original drivetrain in most of them...
edit: re-read...12 seconds is indeed pokey, even for an economy car...

Re: If ..........., You Just Might Be Drivin' an Electric
Go back to some historic road test data - you'd see there there has always been some vehicle that did a 6-second 0-60 (traction limited by the old bias-ply tires), but the vast majority of cars in the 1960's took over 10 seconds and something like the beetle may have been up around 18-20 seconds.potownrob wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 7:31 amyou done read my mind. 8 seconds isn't TOO bad for an economy car though...IMBoring25 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2019 10:50 pm That 0-60 number is pretty pokey by most standards, but a wild improvement over the original drivetrain in most of them...

The econoboxes of the mid seventies were 10 seconds or slower.
Most of what has changed is that the slowest cars now are much faster than the slowest cars of the past.

If you had no clue what you were talking about when you promised to take the electric car market by storm, you might just only be a floor and rug vacuum manufacturer.

If a $3,000.00 Subsidy for purchasing a new vehicle to replace your 8 year old faithful steed is what you've been waiting for, .....
We did mention that your former faithful steed will be crushed, didn't we?
(If I were King, I'd find a more cost-effective method, like taking the worst-of-the-worst polluting vehicles (20% of fleet?) off the road and reducing total vehicle pollution by 80 % simply by replacing them with ANY comparable new ICE-powered vehicle.)

Re: If ..........., You Just Might Be Drivin' an Electric
kinda indifferent about the development of electric vehicles (will probably prefer some sort of hybrid for a long time, if not forever), but what some of these companies, including VW, are doing with their cars, both looks, feature and name wise, is annoying me greatly. ID Crozz?? REALLY?!?Rope-Pusher wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2019 8:39 pm ...driving a new VW in Canada in 2021,......

nota bene: the new golf coming out, from the pics and spec sheets at least, looks like a big downgrade from the current golf, at least the earlier MK7 models like the '16 SE eye had.

An interesting discussion with a confirmed Gearhead who is now a Tesla owner. He discusses what life with a Tesla is like...as a multi-vehicle owner. I would sum up his comments with "I love this car, but they're not for everyone" (for a number of reasons he brings up.)

If you have a dead battery miles from shore, you just might be riding an electric Jet Ski.

If you have a dead battery out in the woods during a blizzard, you just might be riding an electric snowmobile.

If you had to halt participation in an off-road event because you would get stuck on a mountain with no charging available,....
LORDSTOWN FAILS TO COMPLETE OFF-ROAD RACE- Autoline Daily
You can learn a whole lot about a vehicle by taking it racing and Lordstown learned it miscalculated the amount of energy it would use during the San Felipe 250. We reported about the EV startup’s plans to enter a modified version of its Endurance pickup in the off-road race, but unfortunately for the team, it only completed 40 of the 280 miles. Pre-race, Lordstown estimated a 3X energy consumption while racing off-road, but due to larger tires and driving in deep sand, the true energy usage was 4 times normal levels. So, it determined the second leg, of about 65 miles, could strand the truck in the middle of a mountain with no place to charge it. Lordstown says it looks forward to next year and we hope it does compete again. There’s a lot to learn and tweaks to be made. But this also shows why Jeep and Rivian want to install charging stations at trail heads. And it also might not be a bad idea to open a tow service near places like Moab and Rubicon Trail.
