Ram Pick-m-Up sales really shot up back when the Cummins engine was first made available in the 2500 and 3500 models.bk7794 wrote:Oh yeah, cheap and diesel truck are seldom used in the same sentence. Unless its separated by not.

Such was the public image of the Cummins engine as a durable, more fuel-efficient alternative to conventional gasoline-fuelled engines. There was even talk that no matter what else might eventually go bad on your truck, you were always going to have that Cummins engine to sell off or retrofit into some other pick-m-up. It's like having a core deposit value that eventually exceeds the market value of the vehicle.

I just throw 225 pounds of sand in the bed for the winter. It's been working great, haven't gotten stuck yet.

Re: How bad would a 2WD pickup be in the snow?
I had a GMC Savanah company van. When it snowed I backed into my driveway, it's at a slight downward angle toward the garage, I put 4 tree stumps from the firewood pile in the back. I was surprised that I had no trouble getting out, or on the roads that weren't plowed all that well. But - in warm weather I got stuck once with my RWD Dodge D150 (225cid 6, 4 speed manual) at the dump in very soft dirt. A bulldozer working the area at the time pushed me out. Once when on a dirt driveway that sloped up quite steeply the wheels just spun on my Silverado - had the option of 4WD to get moving.
Because one reason I have a truck is to buy 'You pick up' firewood - I'd probably stick with 4WD because I don't want to get stuck on someone's property and start to damage their lawn. On the way out though, loaded with wood - RWD would probably be fine. Still, it would be very tempting to buy a full size RWD truck with a manual transmission. I'd be fine with no AC, crank windows, just like the Dodge I had. Back in the 80s a full size truck with a manual was almost common. Had I known what the future would be, I probably would have kept it.

I actually really want a Cummins Ram. Always loved them old semi trucks.
Now if I could only find a use so I wouldn't feel like a tool driving a full size truck with barely a need.

Just don't put on stacks and roll coal...that's as bad as a huge rice wing and 8 inch fartcan.

Yeah, Dallas is full of this. There's good money in this city and a Platinum trim F250 diesel is basically what the rich folks (and their kids) drive around here. The kids brodoze the crap out of it.theholycow wrote:FTFYbk7794 wrote:Now if I could only find a use so I wouldn't feel like a tool driving a full size 3/4 or 1 ton truck with barely a need.
