Yeah, the 4Runner is totally made for snow. It has pretty good ground clearance, but it also has a high nose (meaning it can clear a lot of snow, rather than pushing it like a snow plow) that allows it to slide right over high mounds of snow. The 4wd system is simply amazing too. It's pretty much unstoppable. I've actually tried to get it stuck in deep snow, but I've always managed to get it out without assistance.

I have taken Olie the last couple days and notice that engaging 4x4 is hit and miss. I can think of a few times it would have been helpful, but it doesn't always want to go in. I've RTFM but something about the electrics must be picky.

I wish I had a lee-ver to shift about, but I only have buttons.

Yeah...that's a 3rd gen in your pic. Mine's a 4th gen (2004) which went from 2003 through 2009. I absolutely hate the styling of the current 5th generation. I don't know what Toyota was thinking.

Much of the Palisades Interstate Parkway in NY is concrete. It was maybe 10 years ago that they started to pave over the concrete with asphalt. And you know what? The asphalt has already been paved over, while the original concrete portion of the parkway remains almost entirely original. I'm sure it costs more, but it lasts FAR longer. The only real downside is that the ride is more noisy than ultra-smooth asphalt. Still though, concrete doesn't develop potholes the way asphalt does....
Michigan does the same thing. Go north from Ohio to Michigan and when you cross the state line, the noise begins...

But the roads last longer.

Noisy motorways are more of a reason for loud music.

The highways yes....get off those highways and you'll feel like you landed on the moon. I go over there once in a while. Speaking of which we have a joke about people from Windsor. What happens whiten someone from Windsor crosses the border? The average IQ of both countries goes up.

But if you are using a CD player, the potholes are so bad that it skips on about every pot hole. Very frustrating. I see re-bar showing in some of the potholes.

Requires unlimited data streaming (or higher than 200MB/month). I'm cheap.

MP3s and or other digital formats work well also.

True. I have my iPod, but my problem ends up being that most of the music on it is the same stuff that I've been listening to for the better part of 13 years and I've gotten long since bored listening to it over and over again.
