If Olie were in better shape, he has 16 year old car issues - most of which probably aren't worth addressing at this point - I would seriously think about it. Oh, and a more efficient engine. 15 is fine for some, but not for me (full time).Squint wrote:Doing a swaptankinbeans wrote:Sonofabiscuit. Are there any other options that I could look at in several years?

Are you looking for an AWD SUV with stick? Pickings are slim, but take a look at this thread: http://www.standardshift.com/forum/view ... 10&t=19100tankinbeans wrote:Sonofabiscuit. I'm pretty up in the air right now as I have no concrete plans to buy anything, but the only things that seem vaguely in my price range range are a couple Superpoos and the FJ Cruiser.Boston Fit wrote:Are you looking for an AWD SUV with stick? A Superwhat? You have several stick-SUV options within the FJ Cruiser's price range (from Subaru, Mazda, VW, Nissan, Jeep), although it's anyone's guess what will be available in a few years when you're ready to buy.tankinbeans wrote:I'm pretty up in the air right now as I have no concrete plans to buy anything, but the only things that seem vaguely in my price range range are a couple Superpoos and the FJ Cruiser.

I'll definitely be on the lookout when my lease is up. I still haven't decided if I want to buy it out, or go for something different. I keep waffling back and forth.Boston Fit wrote:A Superwhat? He didn't answer but I think it was a play on Subaru.Boston Fit wrote:A Superwhat? Pretty common play on "Subaru" in my neck of the woods.

I also found the automatic on my 2001 Silverado was decent. I like that it doesn't downshift on every slight incline. I'll sometimes back off the throttle to prevent it.theholycow wrote:My 2002 GMC is a slushbox but it is very good at choosing the right gear, doesn't hunt, is generally well-behaved.
I looked a long time for an older full size 4WD pickup with a standard shift, almost impossible to find locally. Seems like the trend toward automatics in pickup trucks started years ago.

"CANADIANS!"
"Subaru Canada has just announced the all-new 2015 Legacy sedan that will arrive in Canadian showrooms this summer. But it comes with a six-speed manual transmission in the 2.5i Touring model equipped with the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine. All other models come equipped with the new-generation Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission. What makes the new six-speed manual gearbox special?
U.S. buyers don’t get the option of getting the new-generation Legacy sedan with a manual gearbox. All they can get is the Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) automatic gearbox. Subaru of America has dropped the manual gearbox option for the all-new 2015 Legacy sedan. The outgoing 2014 Legacy featured the fully synchronized six-speed standard gearbox and the five-speed adaptive electronic automatic."

I watched a video to see how boxer engines work the other day and I think I want one.

Apparently when my in-laws were dating/engaged, my mother-in-law had a Beetle. It was having some issues so my father-in-law rebuilt it over a day. When a car is that small and relatively simple, apparently that's not too difficult. I feel like InlinePaul would want one.

They're not totally good cars for Michigangsters. On one hand, heating and defrosting leave something tubey desired. On the other hand, they have slick bottoms (!!!!) with engine over the drive wheels, so they don't tend to get stuck in the snow and you have 5 other fingers.Squint wrote:Apparently when my in-laws were dating/engaged, my mother-in-law had a Beetle. How does the snowplow driver get to work...
Re: State of the Stick
Snowmobile. Or snowshoes. That's my guess. Or, like His Bovine Holiness, the driver keeps the plow at home.IMBoring25 wrote:How does the snowplow driver get to work...
