new here and miss my stick

Post by dakta1420 »

Hey all, names dakota. My dd is an 04 civic vp. But Its an auto :/ before that i had a 98 saturn sl2. I handed it down to my wife. That car has been pretty reliable. It now has 215, 000 miles it is a fun to drive 5speed. I bought the honda because I have nerve damage in my foot and sometimes it would hurt to drive a stick. So I thought buying an auto would be smart and the honda has been great
But its so boring, so quiet so refined. The saturn is crude and raw and FUN!!! I miss fun!! I want to buy a cheap beater stick shift just to be mine to tinker and enjoy but the boss (my wife)? Says no.
Would you trade cars just to have the stick or would you just enjoy the civic for what it is? Btw glad to be here awesome site you got here.

Welcome, glad you're here.

Yes I would trade cars just to have a stick! :) Another option is to keep your eyes open for a nice manual car. You never know what you might stumble across. Sometimes that's the way you find the best cars.

Try to find one with a lighter pedal pressure so it does not aggravate your foot injury too much. What about physical therapy for the foot?

Welcome. I would reasonably downgrade to get a manual in a DD ecobox.

I love the honda so much except that its boring. Its got much better ac a better stereo. But the saturn is fun and faster. It really is a peppy car.

How strongly does your wife feel about it?

What happens if you drive her car a lot and she gets annoyed? Will she feel differently then about you getting a weekend car?

Do you have any need for a truck? You could get a beater Ranger/S10 with a 5MT for very little money on the excuse of hauling your trash or lumber or boat...

I had a 2008 VW Rabbit (now back to the "Golf" name) which had the lightest clutch in the world. If you breathed too hard, the air current from your breath could slap that clutch pedal to the floor. Perhaps something like that could be more compatible with your condition.

Must be a twin brother (joined at the hip to explain same cars?), or he lost track of the user-id and had to make a new one.

At any rate, I wonder if his wife is all that attached to the manual transmission. Maybe he can trade cars with her and if she gets used to the Civic then he can simply not trade back.

As for the foot, perhaps a stiffer soled shoe would help, or maybe a brace of some sort. We'd have to know a bit more about the foot injury I guess.

Yea I made it awhile ago but when I came back it wouldn't work. I tried everything but I also have a new email so I just made a new one.

She wouldn't care she loves the honda and would gladly drive it.

It's a bad chemical burn at the bend between leg and foot and it fried the nerves

Well there you go. If you like the Saturn why don't you trade? Just a thought.

Then if your foot needs a rest you can trade back for a couple days at a time.

Ouch, sounds painful. If you don't mind me asking, how did it happen?

If I ever lost the ability to drive with my left foot, I'd use a broomstick on the clutch with my hand. No way am I giving up stick shift. Sometimes I even shift with my left hand to simulate if I ever broke my right hand and couldn't shift with it.
