If it's North/South would that mean there's a tiny prop shaft and a pumpkin up front? Trying to wrap my brain around how that would work.

Be careful when you wrap your brain around it - there are sharp edges where they made the cut-away.

So the North=South FWD Powertrain has accessory drive toward the front of the engine compartment and the power output to the transmission at the back. It looks a lot like a RWD slushbox up to the point that power is transferred by a chain to a side shaft that feeds power to a differential with one of the driveshafts passing through the transmission bellhousing to power the left-front wheel. This trans was referred to as the A606. For the Plymouth/Chrysler Prowler, the A606 was mounted in the rear of the vehicle and fed power from the front-mounted engine via a long driveshaft running at engine speed.

Oldsmobile did something like the A606 with their North-South FWD Toronado back in 1966, but their differential was a separate entity, not integrated with the transmission case.

The older the Durango gets, the more spry it becomes.

"Dodge likes to think of the Durango as a three-row Charger, and the brand has given the aging SUV a new lease on life in recent years by touting its performance cred alongside the freewheeling cars. "

(These are good times for Charger, Challenger and Durango - sales are up even when they are not spring chickens anymore. Now if only they offered Amish versions of all three)

The SRT bumper on the Durango really is awesome. We rarely order even a base model without the appearance package because of how popular it is.

DURANGO SALES MIX
"The Dodge Durango, which has been advertised alongside the Challenger and Charger in performance-driven campaigns since 2015, is on pace for its best sales year since 2005. Here's a look its sales mix in the first half of 2019:
Trim Starting price Mix
SXT $31,940 26%
GT $38,990 37%
Citadel $44,740 6%
R/T $45,740 29%
SRT $64,740 2%
Source: FCA US"

(They ain't giving them away, but then again mebbe noblolly pays MSRP.)

The competition just sees the back bumper anyway.

Are those power numbers considered good for a displacement that large, in that application? Seems low.

Then again wasn't the Laxative 500 a 7.3 making 145 horsepressures during the emissions choked dark ages?

Yeah, the specific HP and Torque per liter mebbe aren't highest in class, but the raw numbers are high. I wonder if it has any negative factors... is it heavy, or does it have more internal friction. If not rilly, then mebbe it is operating at lower stress levels and will have improved durability and not suck gas.

...But for a mere $59,995.00,......You cudda had a C8!
Image
OFFICIAL C8 CORVETTE PRICING - From Autoline Daily
Well we all knew the new C8 Corvette was going to be priced under 60 grand. And it is, by five dollars. Chevrolet officially announced it will start at $59,995. The next step up is the 2LT trim package which starts just over $67,000 and the 3LT package is just under $72,000. All of those prices include destination charges, and we applaud GM for doing that. Other automakers publish prices that do not include destination charges, even though you cannot buy any vehicle without those charges, which in our opinion ought to be illegal. By the way, Chevrolet dealers are now officially taking orders for the C8.

I looked through the linked brochure and can't find the option for manual transmission. I figured the Mustang died when they put the modular engine in it and then it turned into a sports car, a Mustang only in name, but this, putting out a performance model without a manual transmission is the final nail in the coffin. In my book, if it doesn't have the pushrod 5.0 from the days of yore, it is not a real Mustang.
