Who here shoots? (Gun related)

Post by Roymond »

So I know this might be a little hot button topic, maybe not, don't really know whether this place is gun friendly or not. Regardless, if you got some pictures of you shooting or just some pictures of your favorite one it'd be cool.

This first one was my graduation present from my pops. It is a Taurus PT100

This one was one of my favorite guns to shoot and I believe gave my dad the idea for the Taurus PT100, it is a Taurus PT92

I do have a couple other pictures of my other guns, but... I have to resize them and make sure the serial numbers are not visible.

Note: The only things I shoot are paper targets, deadly water bottles, and threatening clay targets. I never carry, and when they are not in my possession (which they rarely are since they are housed at my parents where they can be locked up in a gun safe) they are locked and unloaded. My father raised me on the strictest gun control rules to the point where I won't even dare point a gun I know is unloaded even remotely close to someone.

I've gone to the range a few times, but I've never shot anything larger than a .22.
Two pedals, two feet, too easy.

Here's me with my dad's Taurus Tracker .357

I've done a bit of shooting in my time, my uncle has 10 acres of property up north and a bunch of guns, so I've done a lot of shooting up there (we treat it as if we were at an actual range, none of that dangerous redneck crap). I've gotten to shoot a few interesting weapons up there, notably an AR-15 with an EOTech, a WWII-vintage .30 Carbine, and a .44 revolver with an 8" barrel. And of course various shotguns and over 9000 .22s.

I've been hanging around at IPSC practices and matches a lot lately, it's very interesting. I did a couple practice runs with the Taurus, but it's a sport really optimized for semi-auto pistols. Once I buy the Glock 17 I've been wanting forever, I'll start actually participating.

I also went trap shooting with my uncle before, I had a lot of fun doing that, too. Basically anything that involves doing more than shooting at a stationary paper target is awesome.

I'll be buying a Glock 17 very soon, I'll post pics when that happens.

Ammo is really too expensive. I want to get something in .45 ACP, but form what I've seen, standard FMJ ammo is averaging close to $300 for 500 rounds (I <3 buying in bulk  ). That's why I've pretty much settled on 9mm, which runs on average ~$125/500 FMJ. Don't even get me started on 10mm Auto.

Including the Taurus PT100 shown above these are my guns.

The pictures of my dad's guns on the night I was cleaning almost the entire safe (There were 3-4 more shotguns and rifles that he didn't deem necessary to clean and one gun that is on uber lockdown because it's jammed and he hasn't gotten the bullet out of it yet) can be seen here: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v158/Roymond/daguns/

The more I think about it, the more I want a S&W M&P (9mm, 4.25" barrel). I managed to get my hands on one for a few seconds a couple weeks ago, and it felt perfect. The palm swell on the back strap filled my hand in just the right way (not sure which one of the 3 interchangeable backstraps was installed). Pre-owned prices aren't much different than pre-owned 3rd gen Glocks, although availability in the private used market isn't great yet (I can't buy from an FFL yet  ).

I wish I had more time to shoot/clean/admire guns. For some, it's a money issue. To me, the cost isn't as much of an issue as time.

I have a Remington 870 pump-action 12-gauge. Planning to buy a Glock 23 (.40 S&W, FBI standard-issue) soon, hopefully.

On a slightly-related note, I have tons of airsoft guns. Too numerous to mention.

I propose a partnership...
If you've got the money, honey, I've got the time
You'll buy lots of guns and firing range time
I'll have more fun baby, and I'll shoot real fine

I'll gladly convert some money into noise on your behalf, sir. I have all the time in the world, but not enough money .

Oh and, +1 for airsoft. It pains me to see how many 'real steel' folks talk down on airsoft. There are a ton good quality airsoft handguns out there that accurately simulate the weight and feel of their real life counterparts, making them a valuable and safe training tool. I remember reading an article about a shipment of M4-styled airsoft guns that were seized at the border because the lower receivers were nearly identical to the real thing .

Yup, the high-end airsofts are no joke. When you go up in the price range, you get so realistic that sometimes it's as though it's a real-steel modified for airsoft. That's how real. And so powerful, the kickback is almost a simulation for some gas-pistols...

As they said in the army, shooting is the best thing a man can do with his pants on. I enjoyed shooting with a rifle and was quite good at it, but unfortunately it's an expensive hobby so I can not afford it as a student. Perhaps one day, if it's still relatively easy to get a long firearm and I can find a range long enough*, I'll start shooting (again). Pistols are not my thing, and thanks to the recent school shootings it's very hard and laborous to get one in these days.

(* Well, .22 LR is probably the biggest I'd get, so the 150-meter (500 ft) ranges are more than adequate...)

As for airsoft, my friend runs the local association in my hometown and I've seen the full scale from cheap plastic toys to expensive full-steel replicas that can take parts from the real guns.

Does it count as shooting if it's a paintball gun? 'Cause those little f**k hurt!
