Draklen's 2010 Genesis Coupe

Post by Draklen »

Okay. So as some saw from the "Just a couple of cars I saw lately" thread. I traded in my WRX for a few reasons.

-Gas smell coming through the vents when it's warm-cold out. (not happening right now since it's hot out)
-WRX is required 93 oct and only 91 is available in California (so it's already slightly pulling timing)
-Driver seat is getting ripped and the left slider bolt keeps getting loose.

and then
-the 75k mile check is coming up soon
-I need new tires too
-I have to renew my insurance very soon too

These reason are why I pushed switching cars sooner rather than later. If I waited, all of my money would have gone to maintenence and tires.
  • Engine - 2.0T
  • Transmission - StandardShifter.
  • Trim - Base, Lime Rock Green
Anyways some pics.

It was the one on display when you first drive up for service dept.

It had a whole 6 miles on it.

Finally home. Fun Fun Fun.

From Puente Hill Hyundai Meet on 9/27/2009. I was about 1 and a half hours early heh.
More pics here. Linky.

10/24/2009
Debadged the trunk a little, prepping for matte black badges.
Image

Purchased a flip key fob case, transferred the guts, and cut the blade.

Pics from 1/16/2010:

Image

This is how I set up my camera for in car videos. It's okay but there is too much noise from it being pineed between the back seat and pretty much the frame of the car.

2/20/2010: Glossy Black Roof Vinyl (Practice car #2 heh)

Image

3/14/2010 - Meet and Drive
Went to a meet at Tuttle-Click Hyundai in Irvine.

Got a reflash from Power Axel.
Image

After the meet, we went on a drive through Ortega Hwy (74).
Here is where we stopped.
Image

And this was our view.
Image

3/16/2010 - TWM Short Shifter

Supershort heh.
Image

3/17/2010 - Forge VTA BoV
Not quite pew pew like HKS. Just a nice compressed air sound.

3/19/2010 - Got an LRG Wing Emblem came in today.

Color is spot on.
Image

I think it'll look pretty good on the front grill.
Image

Installed:

Image

4/3/2010 - Borrowed wheels 20" Bronze 5 Axis
I've been trying to find a good color for wheel for my car, not wanting to follow others and go black wheels. So I "jacked" a friends 5 Axis wheels.

Barring the 4x4 ness I think they look pretty good. Springs being done next Sunday.

Image

Image

And just in case if you were wondering how 4x4 I am, rear stock is a 3 finger gap heh.
Image

4/11/2010 - Tanabe Springs Installed
Okay springs installed

car is on a slight incline
Image

stock wheels - I gave back the 5 Axis ones.
Image

5/21/2010 - ARK 2.0T Dual Exhaust
Downpipe back

Image

8/21/2010 - Dyno Day 215rwhp / 256 tq

This is just the first run. Unfortunately I was on the noisy dynojet. Will post graph when they email it to me, the printer wasn't working.
I have the ARK downpipe back exhaust, 18lbs PowerAxel Reflash, Forge Blow Off Valve.

Adding a little bit of rice but whatever heh. Good for meets and photoshoot stuffs.

9/2/2010 - Green CCFLs AEs and switchback LED turnsignals (white/amber) installed.
They are powered by the parking lights and have individual switches for each side for now.

Image

Image

9/22/2010 - Vertical Door Hinge installed

Okay got the VDI hinge installed and GCTuner rewired the AEs to run off the battery and a single switch, since I can't drive with them on and I don't wanna have my parking lights on the entire time of a "show".

Here she is with me, my brother, and 1 Vertical Door. My brother rides in my car every once in a while and I would rather not have it any harder for him (or for me to help him) to get in... maybe I can suicide the passenger door. I'm pretty sure he can still get in easily if I do that.

Image

3/31/2011 - Green LED Dome Lights

4/2/2011 - Green Skull Shift Knob

Image

Found this at WalMart and thought it looked neat. I had them universal rubber adaptors, that I really hate, so I took apart my stock knob and grabbed the piece with the threading from it. After cutting off the alignment bumps, it fit perfectly into the new shift knob. I painted that piece black for looks. With the shortshifter it sits at a great height and the throws are nice. It feels a tad lighter than the RRM metal shift knob but it's because all the weight is at the bottom (metal threading pressed into the plastic green skull) instead of over the entire thing.

4/3/2011 - WHEELS!!! XXR 006 Chromium Black with Green Lug nuts

Image
Image

I think it looks great. I am getting a little steering wheel shimmy on the freeway, even after getting them balanced 2 times, but it's not bad. Will get the alignment checked next weekend. I'll live with the shimmy since it is only on at freeway speeds and I normally take the street to work.
Update: 4/8/2011 Got rebalanced and alignment and all is gravy. TirePros rebalanced them correctly. No more shimmy or pull.

They gave you a $30,000 loan on a $22,000 car? Wow. Well, no wonder it was 7.2%.

Cool car. I've been eyeballing them and sat in one but didn't test drive one because they didn't have a manual on the lot (and because my wife was waiting in the truck).

Yeah, The sales person (Keri) worked really hard with the finance lady (Kerrie) to find out how to do it. Especially since I picked up a used Buick for my parents like 2 weeks ago, from the same dealership.

It's a real nice car! I love it. 7.2% APR is a bit high, though, all things considered. On a new car I wouldn't go over 5%.

Nice car. I watched a couple car reviews and apparently (I'm sure you know this) it uses the same engine as the new Evo X and it doesn't take much to get 300+ HP from that engine.

The Short block is the same (bottom of the engine) but the rest is different. I don't plan on modding it but if I do anything, it'll probably only be boost gauge and some debadging. Right now, on totally stock engine, they have hit 400rwhp but only like 320rwhp safely... I think. Power modding really isn't my thing so I am not totally up to date on where they are at.

It's basically not a car loan, though.

Once the car is off the lot, they're unsecured in almost half the value of the loan, and it will only get worse for over three years. Given the events of the last most-of-a-year, it surprises (And, frankly, somewhat distresses) me the loan got made at all.

The prospect of being five figures upside-down in a $514 payment that will go on for 6 years would terrify me. It looks like a very nice car and I congratulate you on it, but, well, I wish you the best.

Congratulations. I do rather like these

The front end is kinda goofy in a "Imma kick yo ass" kinda way.

Never lose it in the parking lot either.
