rofl me too. Hence my comment about them being called "harnesses". Once I realized he was talking about a good old manual transmission though, everything made sense. I think...

This whole thing reminds me of the "Amish email virus" that was circulating a while back, politely asking you to manually delete your most important files (since the Amish can't use computers "their" virus was based on the honor system).

In sunny Michigan (well, today it is!), a stick is something we throw for the dog to fetch, but what do we know? We drink Vernors and we call it "POP". I still run into folks that call them "Standard" transmissions, but in more and more cases the "Standard" transmission is a Slushbox and the optional transmission is a Slushbox with one more gear range. I think I can get along fine with folks who call it a stick, but just don't get me started on the subject of "Autosticks" - AARGH!

I agree that "standard" is no longer an accurate way to describe them, nor is "5 speed" or "6 speed". "Manual" seems to be the only truly clear way to label these transmissions.
