Well shit. Had to help move the rear axle out from under dad's parts truck. Went to lift it, lost my grip, fell on the concrete and busted my knee. Came inside 20 minutes later, went to take a look at it, my jeans are full of blood and I'm missing a nice chunk of skin. Didn't even pick up a wrench and it still managed to damage me.

Been there and done that sort of. Let's just say that leather welding gloves can hide a multitude of sins... But when you're welding on something in a vise, using the vise handle as your pivot while welding a joint... Keep your distance. If molten metal runoff flows between your glove and the vise, you'll notice it...eventually. In less than a second "Why does my hand feel hot? No, like it's really hot. HOLY F**K MY FLESH IS BURNING! OH GOD MY GLOVE IS COVERED IN MOLTEN STEEL!" I've also suffered burns from dropping a tool on myself that had been on a bolt heated by an Oxy rig, had a cutting torch sputter and pop molten metal onto a cotton shirt, and had arc burn from an auto darkening helmet that darkened too slowly and a LOT of start/stop welding. I think my worst tool oops was as a teenager. Tangled my finger up with a random orbital sander. Lemme tell you, rapidly spinning sandpaper cuts like a knife and hurts far worse than one. Getting the crap shocked out of you by a motor is no picnic either.

I know what you mean - I just HATE when that happens.

Dammit! Found a nail in the front tire today. It was right on the edge of the tread, too. Tire shop wasn't sure it was going to reliably hold air so I'm using my full-size spare (on matching rim) and the patched tire will be the spare now. Going to check it in a few days and see if the repair is holding or if my newly-created patched spare will need replaced.
But this is why I like full size spares on a matching rim. Easy as pie. My tires have less than 5k miles on them, so diameter difference due to wear isn't a concern. That, and I don't have an LSD to worry about anyway.
On a related note, got the bed Line-Xed today and picked up a full set of WeatherTech liners front and back. Very happy with how the Line-X job turned out - the guy had very good reviews online and appears to be doing quality work.

Tummy, it is absurd to have NO SPARE TIRE and merely a can of fix-a-flat and a compressor, yet more and more vehicles are sold equipped this way each year. If the damage to the tire/wheel is such that it cannot be repaired with the ficks-a-flat, then you are stuck on the side of the road until you can get it toad....and if it's after-hours, then you are stuck until possibly Monday Moanin' until you can get a replacement tire/rim. It just isn't worth the cost and weight savings not to have a spare tire of some sort, and like you point out, having a full-sized spare on a matching wheel adds a significant level of convenience.

I'm coming back to chime in what has been extremely popular in the Focus ST/VW GTI camp of recently. Can't even avoid it because both camps seem to be obsessed with getting rid of their spares for a subwoofer that fits in the under enclosure of the trunk. People are swearing by this stuff called "tire slime" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKlS7I-gwW4
I've literally have never heard of this product and seem really skeptical about how good it works. Not sure if anyone has any experience with this product? It seems to get above average reviews on amazon and positive reception on youtube comments even though the video itself is corny. The claims are that it can seal up to 1/4'' puncture.
I think I've heard of it, but won't use it. Most tire shops I've been to as a result of a nail puncture won't even attempt to fix a tire if it's previously had any sort of fix flat goo in it.
I don't trust them anyway. Also, they're not going to help if you shred the tire so why bother. What I'm curious about are the tires I saw a video for several years ago which effectively have scaffolding in the middle versus air. Those looked cool.
