This is on a tangent, but I find that "nothing is wrong" varies widely from person to person. Most people won't really pay that close attention and occasional clunks and thuds or what-nots will go unnoticed. They aren't a serious problem or may not be a problem at all, but someone like me is usually very attuned to what the car is doing and what noises it makes, and even smaller clunks and thumps are more of a problem to me than they are to an average person. But we're into OCD territory here.watkins wrote:My wife's Mazda 2 has about 101k on it. It had a bad radio last year. As far as my Mazda, according to what I've read they're about on the same tier as Toyota. So far the only thing that has gone wrong was a glitchy radio which was replaced 2 days after delivery.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
My coworker is offering his 430 sqft flat for sale: first floor, one bedroom and combined kitchen/living room, own sauna, small terrace and separate storage room. It's in a price-regulated housing project built in 2012, so it's cheaper than what the same would cost in free market. So, next week I'm going to the bank to negotiate for a loan for 25 years. The apartment costs about $204k and I have saved up about $21k.
I think I can manage that, even when living alone.

Not anytime soon. He just called that the apartment he was going to buy was sold, so he can't sell his current place yet.Rope-Pusher wrote:How soon would you be moving in?

First, there is the cost of the sauna. Then, there is the cost of furnishing the sauna.watkins wrote:Seriously. My house is 4.5ish times the size and didnt cost much more. No sauna though.

i didn't even catch the part about the 430 square feet, but the way he worded the price and how he goes about getting a mortgage stood out to me.

i envy the mazdas, especially that mazda 3 and cx3. what's sad is that i might've gotten one, if my local dealer weren't so sketchy (not to mention i have had it out with the finance manager online - went to school with him). i would have to go way down and over to danbury or out west to like middletown or north to albania to use another dealer. some day...tankinbeans wrote:Fair enough.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
The closest dealership I actually live to of any brand is a Mazda dealership and they are a family owned dealership. They are the only brand I've ever tested that will let you take out the car for free roam for up to 30 minutes. They are extremely non-chalant in the process also- as long as they can make a copy of a valid drivers license they will let you do as you please. I test drove the last gen NC Miata with free roam and it was one of the best test drives I ever had (I already had the GTI at this point). I want to do the same with the ND Miata now. This is really a breathe of fresh air considering I needed to sign a waiver and essentially go through a "scheduled test drive" with the Subaru WRX and essentially pass a back ground check so it seemed for a 30k car. Not going to lie but that turned me off pretty significantly even before considering the WRX.potownrob wrote:i envy the mazdas, especially that mazda 3 and cx3. what's sad is that i might've gotten one, if my local dealer weren't so sketchy (not to mention i have had it out with the finance manager online - went to school with him). i would have to go way down and over to danbury or out west to like middletown or north to albania to use another dealer. some day...tankinbeans wrote:Fair enough.

I liked the last gen Mazda 2 even- I wish it continued onwards without Toyota's finger prints on it.
I always say it's relative indeed. Especially for people who post in the car clubs and say 40k has gone by and they have "absolutely no rattles or creaks". I am always a skeptic for that but I'm also not going to openly complain about stuff like that unless it seems like its excessive. I've literally never owned a car for more then 30k that didn't develop rattles or creaks of sorts. This is on a tangent, but I find that "nothing is wrong" varies widely from person to person. I'm pretty impressed by the level of aggressive aftermarket parts vendors have done for black Friday/cyber Monday sales. Some of the best prices I ever seen on parts- period.. It typically feels like car culture doesn't really go over the top for sales like these and it's like a paltry 10% off or just free shipping. Maybe they are catching on that people will spend a lot this week if enticed. I haven't bought anything yet car related but unrelated I picked up a 500 GB Samsung Evo SSD for $120 and some memory for my desktop. SSD's are so affordable now there's literally no excuse for even a 250 GB one (under 100 easily).

anyone seen the new grand tour?? i thought it was pretty good (1st two episodes out already) so far. never really followed top gear, and didn't really watch it at all til around the time clarkson was axed, so it seems familiar, but i can't cite all the similarities between the two shows.

So far I love it. The Eboladrome with Thhe Isn't Straight, Your Name Here and Old Lady's House make me laugh. The Celebrity Brain Crash segment is pretty fun too.potownrob wrote:anyone seen the new grand tour?? i thought it was pretty good (1st two episodes out already) so far. never really followed top gear, and didn't really watch it at all til around the time clarkson was axed, so it seems familiar, but i can't cite all the similarities between the two shows.
The only part I don't like is the stereotypical fat redneck american, not because he's a stereotype bit because he's obnoxiously unfunny.

THE AGING (CAR) POPULATION - from Autoline Daily
As we reported yesterday, automakers in the U.S. are still on track to break last year’s sales record. But even though new car sales are at an all-time high, the average age of passenger cars continues to get older. IHS Markit reports the average age is now 11.6 years, up from 11.5. And the number of vehicles on the road also hit a record. There are now 264 million vehicles in the U.S. which is 6.2 million more than last year. A key reason is that the scrappage rate is very low. A little more than 11 million vehicles are getting scrapped, even though we’re adding over 17 million new ones.
...and the drivers of Amish transmission vehicles are holding on to them as long as they can(?)
