I want it, but the price will ensure that I won't be able to justify it. I'm most likely going to end up with a Fiesta ST like you, or maybe a Focus ST, depending on my size needs and opinions when I drive both.

That purchase, however, is still a couple years off.
Yea, I really like everything about that car. I'm interested to see what the launch price will be after dealer markups.

My thought is that it's going to be right around $40,000. It's a direct competitor to the STI, which is stickered just above $35k, but I think the Focus will command a bit of a premium over it.

Audi, which has been a pioneer in LED lamps, is taking the next step with laser lamps, which will be an option on the R8. Laser lamps can be made smaller than LEDs, yet put out nearly twice as much light. Audi says you can spot them because they put out a blue light. These high-tech lamps are head-turners. But we shudder to think what they might cost. Remember, last year we reported that the cost to replace those Audi Matrix LED lamps at the dealership are $3,200 apiece.
Head-turners? They sound like eye-burners. Twice as much light coming form a smaller area is glare city.

Yes and no. If it's the type of stuck where you can get a good rhythm going by only applying tire in one direction then you can rock it with the clutch. If it's the type where the car doesn't roll down off of the stuck then you need to shift between forward and reverse, using the brake to hold it in place at each extreme, and it's about the same (time and effort spent shifting manual vs. time spent waiting for auto to engage new gear choice).
I guess I should have qualified my rocking statement. That is the style of rocking I needed to use the past few days. Put it in reverse, start the rock, clutch in, let it come back forward by itself, etc...

We're having a bit more snow today and most schools are cancelled... but not the University. And they haven't really shoveled the sidewalks or anything since we have gotten more snow and it has been blowing around.

I'm very seriously considering not going to my one class today because it would be a 25+ min walk there and back for an hour long class. Or I could leave work almost 2 hours earlier.

I find I can usually improve the situation with that technique. It may not be the direction I eventually want to go, but using a hill or the end of a trench as a backstop will usually allow enough rocking to at least make a run of packed snow, if not reposition the vehicle so surface and/or terrain are more advantageous.

The main push behind this technology is how adaptive the lights are. They actively scan the horizon and carve out a 'hole' in the beam pattern that follows all oncoming traffic, which reduces glare far better than any existing system. This, of course, is the same reason we won't see them on our shores in the near term because the existing and outdated NHTSA mandates render these systems illegal.

If the great unwashed masses aren't going to pay what it takes to maintain, adjust, etc. the "Headlamp du jour", then it's better to keep them simple and cheap.

APPLE POACHING PEOPLE FOR ITS EV
In Silicon Valley people will walk across the street this afternoon to take a new job. But if one company starts hiring too many people from another company that’s called poaching and it’s not legal. Apple has been hiring people away from car companies to develop an electric car and now comes word that lithium-ion battery maker A123 Systems is suing Apple for poaching five of its employees. A123 also says they violated non-disclosure agreements. Apple reportedly has 200 people on this project and wants to grow that to 1,000. So don’t be surprised if we hear about more of these lawsuits.

Oh, so it's not legal for another company to hire you away from your employer? The employer could always counter-offer more pay, better conditions, etc. right? Whereas if they feel it is an employers market, they can treat you like crap, halt raises or cut pay, cut back benefits, etc., but that's not a crime?

The other day at the gym we pondered the important things in life; like whether turtles have butts.

Today I pondered what is worse on the motorway, a false sense of security in snow or a real sense of terror. It snowed last night. Just enough to make it a bit moist in spots but nothing horrible. People are either flying or crawling.

Both. Both are worse.
