If the manufacturer stops accepting bitcoin as payment,.......

Sounds like ol' Muskie may have bit off more than he can chew!

ELON MUSK BACKTRACKS ON BITCOIN PAYMENTS - Autoline Daily
Well, that didn’t last long. Elon Musk announced yesterday that Tesla will no longer accept Bitcoin as payment for its cars. Musk Tweeted out that Bitcoin mining uses too much energy, especially energy generated with coal. The cryptocurrency instantly dropped $5,000. What makes this a bit strange is that Tesla bought $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin in February. Musk says they’re not going to sell it but will use it for transactions once mining transitions to more sustainable energy. But it’s hard to believe that Elon Musk didn’t know about this before Tesla bought the Bitcoin. Tesla is all about creating a more sustainable society and it received a lot of criticism after making the purchase. It seems like Tesla is trying to make up for it. But what do you think?

If you can't travel as many miles in a day as the 1909 Ford Model T,......

FORD TAKING MACH-E COAST-TO-COAST - Autoline Daily
Ford is paying tribute to a transcontinental race the company participated in over 100 years ago. On June 1, 1909 Henry Ford entered two Model Ts in the first coast-to-coast road race in the U.S. Starting in New York City, it took 23 days and 4,106 miles before one of them crossed the finish line at the Seattle World’s Fair. And now Ford is performing another coast-to-coast drive with two Mustang Mach-E’s to show off its capabilities. They will be led by a re-creation of a Model T from the original race. The cars started yesterday in New York City and will travel 6,500 miles through 20 states in 50 days.

TESLA FACES BIG FINE IN NORWAY - Autoline Daily
Tesla potentially faces a big fine in Norway. A court ruled that the EV maker is guilty of artificially limiting or throttling its charging speed and battery capacity with a software update. Tesla is going to have to pay $16,000 to each of the thousands of affected owners, unless it appeals. A few years back, Tesla owners complained about reduced range and DC fast-charging rates at Supercharger stations after a software update. At the time, Tesla told Electrek that the update was intended to “protect the battery and improve battery longevity” and that issue only affected “a small percentage of owners.” However owners weren’t satisfied which led to lawsuits in a number of countries including Norway. There could be more than 10,000 affected owners in the country and Tesla will have to pay all of them unless it appeals in the next few weeks. This could also set a precedent for lawsuits in other countries, including the U.S.

U.S. YEARS AWAY FROM RARE EARTHS SELF-SUFFICIENCY Autoline Daily
President Biden wants to see the United States develop its own supply chain of critical materials. And that is the topic on our television show Autoline This Week. We asked Jack Lifton, an expert on rare earth minerals whether the US could develop its own supply chain. Currently the auto industry relies almost completely on China for those materials. Here’s what he had to say.

“The U.S. could actually be independent from China for rare earths. Our total use per year is about 10,000 or 12,000 tons of rare earth permanent magnets. Two thirds of that is from the automotive industry. That’s the industry the needs these things the most. The United States has the capability to provide that. What we don’t have is any processing capacity. There’s no point to developing a mine in the United States if it’s just to supply China. This is why private equity has not been interested in this area. With the latest White House directive, so to speak, and the response, it’s possible the federal government will step in here. And quite frankly there are several federal solicitations out right now asking people to test out systems for separating and making rare earth metals and alloys and then report on the economics of them. The Department of Defense and the Department of Energy are both very much involved in this. The thing that everybody has to remember is that it takes years. Once you model something and say we can do it, even if it’s subsidized, we’re years and years away from this.”

If you're purchasing a new vehicle in Canada after 2035,......

I have to admit, when I read the subject line, i thought, to paraphrase Paul Simon, "Who do, who do you think you're foolin?"
I mean sure, they've had a hot week out there by Vancouver and set a record high temperature of 49.6 degrees....and it was Celsius, not Fahrenheit, but still, they got a lot of ice up there and to say that the ice will be banned by 2035,......

CANADA ANNOUNCES ICE BAN Autoline Daily
Several dozen countries have announced plans to ban ICEs and now Canada is adding its name to the list. It will prohibit the sale of any vehicles with tailpipe emissions by 2035. Norway is banning ICEs starting in 2025 and a bunch of European countries will follow in 2030. More join the list in 2035, including California. If they all stick to their plans, we’re going to see a massive drop off in sales of cars and trucks with piston engines.

FISKER PEAR TO BE BUILT IN WISCONSIN Autoline Daily
Say, did we just learn where Fisker is going to have Foxconn build its next car called the Pear? Neither company announced anything yet, but Autoforecast Solutions reports that it will be built in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin. That’s where Foxconn built a plant with massive state subsidies to make large flat screen TVs. But that plan hasn’t quite worked out, and state officials are hopping mad with Foxconn. So if that plant starts making electric cars everyone is going to heave a sigh of relief. Wisconsin gets a return for taxpayers, Foxconn gets a contract to make Fiskers, and Fisker gets its cars.
