Change your rearview mirror bearing
Change bearing down on rearview mirrors
After a century of duty, the humble rearview mirror is about to get a makeover.
Two automakers have introduced rear cameras that feed a video image onto the rearview mirror, eliminating blind spots when the vehicle is going forward.
If motorists don't want the video image, they can toggle to a conventional mirror.
The biggest benefits would come when cameras replace side mirrors, enabling an aerodynamic upgrade that would improve fuel economy by one or miles per gallon.

Re: Change your rearview mirror bearing
ugh, gag me with a spoon
edit: if this can be implemented as well as honda has integrated various technologies and changes with the new accord, then it might actually work out well. btw, eye test drove the new accord (not in manual guise - it was for my sister's hopeful near future acquisition), and it may be the best car i've ever driven (Disclaimer: i never got to drive the Viggen or RX8). it is head and shoulders better than any past accords, that i've driven at least.

The little side curb camera on the Accord is nice, but I only see nominal utility out of this. I swing my mirrors wide and prefer it that way. Then again I still turn around for all of my lane changes and can only see this really benefitting people driving box trucks or vans with no windows.

No!! I wasn't talking about the stupid lanewatch camera. They got rid of it on the new accord, btw, and replaced it with BSM warnings on EX and above.tankinbeans wrote:The little side curb camera on the Accord is nice, but I only see nominal utility out of this. Re: Change your rearview mirror bearing
BOO! That was a nifty little feature that I could get used to.
Tell me the automotransport module was at least the 10 speed and not the rubber band. I drove one with the rubber band, and faux “gears” in 2016 and it was a sewing machine - not quite as bad as the Sentra my friend had several years ago, but dronerific. I’m still not convinced CVTs are a good option for groups of obliviods who can’t be bothered with basic maintenance since everything I’ve absorbed through the various interwebs indicates they’re more picky than even traditional automatics.

Re: Change your rearview mirror bearing
nein!! Wir haben driven dem neuen Accord ex-l 1.5T mit den rubberband CVT. it drove very well and no drone or sewing machine was detected. the 2.0T models with the 10 speed (and 6 speed) won't be out for a while. it was quieter than the old model, even the 2017 V6 Touring model (mit den 6 speed autobox) we drove after it (for comparison). it also handled better, rode smoother, felt sportier when steered, was nicer and more comfy inside, etc. decent power too. sister would probably consider the regular EX 1.5T or possibly the sport 1.5T, at least when they offer discounts on them.tankinbeans wrote:BOO! edit: forgot to mention the accord 1.5T engine has VTEC (yo!!) and feels significantly more powerful than the non-VTAC 1.5T in the Civic (which doesn't compare to the new Accord, IMO). eye recommend watching youtube videos about this new accord.
edit 2: the lanewatch camera feature is kinda lame and redundant, unless you are just too lazy to either set your mirrors right or turn your head to the right to look out the mirror. i personally did not and do not get it.

Re: Change your rearview mirror bearing
At least it’ll drive nicely until the transmission shits itself. I don’t know if the lanewatch feature is the same I’m thinking of which activates with the left signal; I could see that being useful to avoid curb checks. Otherwise I swing my mirrors wide and turn around, as I was taught in drivers’ ed.

Re: Change your rearview mirror bearing
You were in Driver's Ed too? What did you think of Mr. Bass? As a math teacher he was nothing spectacular, but we had some good conversations while putting in my 6 hours of "roadwork" and I really got to appreciate him. I ran into him again, years later, when I was spending the day at Cedar Point Amusement Park. I thanked him for teaching me how to drive, but I've always wondered if he had wished I had thanked him for teaching me Algebra.tankinbeans wrote:At least it’ll drive nicely until the transmission shits itself. eye think your opinion may be at least a few years outdated. or meant for another brand of vehicles.tankinbeans wrote:At least it’ll drive nicely until the transmission shits itself.
totally redundant. just look in the right side mirror.I don’t know if the lanewatch feature is the same I’m thinking of which activates with the left signal; I could see that being useful to avoid curb checks. Otherwise I swing my mirrors wide and turn around, as I was taught in drivers’ ed.

Re: Change your rearview mirror bearing
I’m specifically thinking of periodically misjudging a curb and running it over. Otherwise when driving down the road I do turn round.
I’m speaking of CVTs in general. Nissan has issues and the Subarus with them fitted are running into troubles too.

Re: Change your rearview mirror bearing
can you turn down the lanewatch camera?? eye never tested them out beyond turning them on either with the turn signal or the switch at the end of the turn signal stalk. i'd just turn down the mirror toward the ground to see the curb (or use reverse camera).tankinbeans wrote:I’m specifically thinking of periodically misjudging a curb and running it over. yeah, that's what came to my mind too. haven't heard of honda having issues with at least newer CVTs though. that's not to say they don't require more frequent maintenance than a conventional auto or manual box though (eye believe they do).I’m speaking of CVTs in general. Nissan has issues and the Subarus with them fitted are running into troubles too.

Re: Change your rearview mirror bearing
This is the right way to do it. Many of us are taught incorrectly that you should just see the side of your car when adjusting mirrors. In my opinion, that's completely wrong. The mirrors should be much wider than that.tankinbeans wrote: I swing my mirrors wide and prefer it that way.
Ever since adjusting them correctly a few years ago, I don't really have issues with blind stops. Even in my truck.

Re: Change your rearview mirror bearing
Right. If you see the side of your car then the mirrors are in too tight. But many people feel a level of comfort seeing the side of their car in the mirror and become uneasy if they can't.AHTOXA wrote:This is the right way to do it.
