1st Gear: post your MPH @2000 rpm & RPM @ 20 MPH
[Automatics need not reply]
Assuming the speedometer in your vehicle is reasonable accurate at lower speeds.
2001 Ranger 5-speed 2.3L DOHC:
2000 RPM in 1st gear is 13 MPH
20 MPH in 1st gear is 3200 RPM (that'd been close to 40 MPH in my 1984 F150 4.9L!)
2000 RPM in 2nd gear is 18 MPH
20 MPH in 2nd gear is 2200 RPM
EDIT: So, based on Six's message below, I have revised the thread title to include not only MPH at 2000 rpm in 1st gear, but also RPMs in first gear at 20 mph. This will be useful for those who have a very low first gear and can't get the road speed at 2000 rpm.

Re: Post your road speed in 1st gear @ 2000 rpm
OMG, 1st gear @ only 2000 RPM? <10 MPH. Speedometer is too inaccurate in that range.
// Updated Data //
So, I busted out the trusty ScanGaugeII to do this, so these should be reasonably accurate figures:
2003 Acura 3.2CL Type-S 6-spd 3.2L DOHC V6 VTEC FWD
@2050RPM = 10~11 MPH
@20MPH = ~3750 RPM +- 100 RPM

According to the gear calculator, 16MPH@2000RPM and 2500RPM@20MPH. Car is in the shop.

Hard to tell at that speed and the larger tires makes the speedo ever so slightly off, but ~18 km/h so 11ish mph.
Two pedals, two feet, too easy.

Re: 1st Gear: post your MPH @2000 rpm & RPM @ 20 MPH
Ok, I was only able to check the speed in 1st at 2000 rpm and it was about 10 mph.
So I used the gear calculator that holycow posted:
1st @ 2000 rpm = 10 mph
1st @ 20 mph = 3800/3900 rpm
2nd @ 2000 rpm = 17 mph
2nd @ 20 mph = 2400 rpm
What do you guys think? That's pretty short gearing right?

Re: 1st Gear: post your MPH @2000 rpm & RPM @ 20 MPH
Yeah, almost as short as the 2008 Rabbit. According to the calculator (to which I previously added a predefined 2008 Rabbit):
1st @ 2000 rpm = 9 mph
1st @ 20 mph = 4200-4300 rpm
Probably still does around 3000RPM at 65MPH in high gear?

I was only able to use the calculator for the first 4 gears cus I have two final drive ratios.theholycow wrote:Yeah, almost as short as the 2008 Rabbit. According to the calculator (to which I previously added a predefined 2008 Rabbit):

But if I remember correctly, I'm between 70 and 75 mph at 3000 rpm in 6th.

Re: 1st Gear: post your MPH @2000 rpm & RPM @ 20 MPH
Going from memory here since I can't go test at the moment...
2000 RPM = 9-10 MPH. I usually shift out of first between 2000-2500, depending on need, and it is usually around 10 MPH or a little above.
I'll have to test the 20 MPH -> RPM one later. Should be able to update tomorrow.

Re: 1st Gear: post your MPH @2000 rpm & RPM @ 20 MPH
ill check tomorrow, but i know that my car's 1st gear runs out (when i shift at 7k) right at 30 mph, so i would conclude that 2k would put me roughly around 10 mph. its kinda pointless to look at the speedometer (in a car from 1998) because the speedometer is kinda off at lower speeds. not to mention that when my speedometer says im doing 70 in my car, im actually doing 64. although i feel like thats more of a tolerance thats built in from the factory if anything. im sure more modern vehicles have much more accurate speedometers (working digitally instead of analog)

Re: 1st Gear: post your MPH @2000 rpm & RPM @ 20 MPH
According to the handy-dandy Flyin' Miata gearing calculator:
With my 175/70/14 winter tires:
MPH @2000 rpm = 10.3 MPH
RPM @ 20 MPH = 3860 RPM
With my 195/50/15 summer tires:
MPH @2000 rpm = 9.9 MPH
RPM @ 20 MPH = 4030 RPM
All with a 4.30 rear end ratio

Re: 1st Gear: post your MPH @2000 rpm & RPM @ 20 MPH
Since Señor Bull referenced two final drive ratios, Señor Beans wants to ask how that works? How does the car switch all of the mechanical gubbins to get the power to the road?
I'm going to try to figure the values for 1st at 2000 and 20mph in 1st shortly.

Re: 1st Gear: post your MPH @2000 rpm & RPM @ 20 MPH
Unless there are other bulls up in here, I don't remember mentioning that in this thread.
I don't remember exactly how that works but Rope-Pusher did explain it for me once. It was something like having some gears on one shaft and some on another, where each shaft is connected via a different ratio...

I think he meant daleadbull. And tank, it wasn't 2 different ratios, it was 1st and 2nd gear, if that's what you're wondering.

D'oh!
I don't often think in bovinity contexts outside of my own username and hadn't even thought of that name being cowish. Funny tangent, the first time I saw that username I read it as "Dale dead bull" like some kind of Native American name, and even though I eventually looked closer and understood, that's how I pronounce it in my head. However, when I think about it, the important concept that comes to mind is "lead", hence why I don't think "moo".
