Impaled on a shifter
Impaled on a shifter
Just another reason to buckle up....especially if you drive an older car that doesn't have all the modern safety stuff. Warning: there's a semi-gory picture in the article of the shift lever stuck inside the guy's leg.

That was just gross. Interesting, but gross.

I know. Still though, it's worth it if for nothing other than a reminder to buckle up and drive safe.
Be safe, everybody.

I won't even start moving unless I am belted as well as any passengers. They get annoyed when I just stare at them.

All is well if the guy can still drive a stick, and hopefully he will.
I started wearing seat belts some years before they were mandated in Michigan. It was after reading an article that explained just what forces are involved. Something like 20 mph into a concrete abutment and you think you will brace yourself against the dash board is like trying to catch a 20 pound sand bag dropped from a second story window. I can't remember exactly but something like that. It just spooked me into wearing belts.

Me too. Having ridden in a 78 Skyhawk, that tried to kill me, and also had crap seatbelts I've always tried to wear them when they work properly.InlinePaul wrote:All is well if the guy can still drive a stick, and hopefully he will.

Yep, and back in those days, there were a lot of cars that did not come from the factory with seat belts. Or if they did, it was belt only so you would still fold forward and have your head smashed into the dash or steering column. I never had a really bad accident but was in a car that T-boned another car and I did feel the seat belt/shoulder harness hold me back.tankinbeans wrote:Me too. Jesus... This is one case wherein I was SERIOUSLY hoping for porno.
I've seen a few serious accidents. Intersection about 100 feet from the end of my driveway is a town bypass with very heavy truck traffic. I've seen some ugly shit. Wear your damn seatbelt, that's all I can say.
