Remember when...

Post by AHTOXA »

Some of you have been around for a while here and this makes me think. I've been here for almost 4 years and here are some highlights that stick out to me. What about you?

- Jeep guy who was turned on by pedal-pumping and pedal work in general. Some kinda foot fetish. Tried IMing me a few times along with some other members
- Watkins' mother references at the first annual standardshift meet in 2008.
- Ole!, Pepe Lopez at one of the meets
- Leedeth with an affection for lizards and dragons
- old crew like Jomo, JohnF, SteveUK, Prodigal Son and many other knowldgeable and good members.
- meeting a good deal of the members here during my travels as far out as Seattle, WA and Boston, Mass
- attending a wedding reception for one of the members here and his cat trying to paw my f**k nose and running away while I slept
- All of the standardshift annual meets starting in 2008
- When Kevin crashed his Viggen - I was saddened.
- Phil and his pretty good pics - mostly of the dub.
- Eric's heroic attempt to attend last year's meet by driving accross the entire country, nearly, and crashing his bike early into the trip.

These are to just name a few.

Oh god Leedeth. How could I forget him.

I remember most of those things. Jomo, JohnF, SteveUK and Prodigal Son were still around when I first joined here but they weren't really posting much by the time I came around. Jomo needs to come back. We need some STi goodness.

There was also that guy with the hairy leg fetish. And let us not forget Tinton or Roman.
Two pedals, two feet, too easy.

How many of us here have moved a significant distance - say more than a county away - since being on here?

I know you have, Jastreb did and I am in process.

Watkins got married.

Anyone got a link to Cosmin's vid? It'd be funny to see again, even for those that are new.

Feeling a bit nostalgic? For a second, I though this was gonna be one of those Russian emails that's been going around... "Remember when you used to buy jam from the babushka and she asked you to bring back the jars..."
Well since we're feeling all sentimental...
Watkins' mother references at the first annual standardshift meet in 2008.
Always wondered where that came from...
Ole!, Pepe Lopez at one of the meets
Oy. And don't forget his buddy, Admiral Nelson.
old crew like Jomo, JohnF, SteveUK, Prodigal Son and many other knowldgeable and good members.
I started lurking on here in 2008, and remember all those guys. PS especially had some wisdom to shaere. And +1 to Jomo needing to come back.

Fun times. Too bad I couldn't go this year. Believe it or not, I had always distrusted the idea of meeting people from the internet, and this has helped alter my thinking on the subject.
I'm hungry now, and this post made me remember Bacon Explosion.

Yeah - I took I-40 almost all the way. I have to say it's a pretty boring drive. If I had to do it again, I would go through Colorodo. Now I'm north-east of LA, on the way to Las Vegas. I miss trees and moisture.
Also back in the day... a whole bunch of people, including me, drove VW Rabbits and Jettas. And now no one does... Maybe I wouldn't have joined if it wasn't for the "peculiar" clutch of the 5th gen V-dubs.
As far as females, I think most females think we are dorks for going on the internet and talking about transmissions.

I moved 2000Km (around 1200 miles). I don't know if you'd consider that a significant distance.

Speaking of the ladies there was also Blondie and that chick named PprStSpCo.

The mother jokes appeared sometime before the first meet, if I remember correctly. My first words to Watkins in person were related to his mother.

How they appeared, I do not recall.

I remember meeting eric in Portland. Had good sushi for lunch.

You guys remember the word filters when "shit" would be auto-corrected to "quit" in posts? "penis" was "fireman".

I still wonder what happened to Nychold. He just dropped off the face of the forum/planet one day. I hope everything is all good.

On another forum someone posted a thread asking about creepy hairy leg pedal pumping fetish guys and I posted about the Jeep guy, with my IM log and such.

I was another Rabbitter.

I remember "quit". Took me a short time to figure out why everybody was using that word like that, back when I first arrived.

Here's the vimeo link to the SS meet parody, youtube was taken down:

http://vimeo.com/12988566

And I remember all those damn things. I remember PS with his infinite and blunt wisdom. I remember Roman making a race car out of a Probe. Leedeth hating his dad for selling or smashing his videogames. Meeting up with Tonebone for the first time and driving each others cars. (I'm still on the same one, he's had about 5 since then  ) Tinton pissing everyone off. SSer promising to make us swag for the past 3 years and never delivering (ahem).

Shit I've been here for a while. And I was one of the 'noobs' in this site's heyday.

As a newer member, you all sound like a bunch of old guys reminiscing about the glory days of the 50s and 60s.
