What Media Player Do You Use?
What Media Player Do You Use?
I've been searching everywhere for a good media player to switch to. For the longest time I just used Windows Media Player and that was fine, but it doesn't have a lot of the functionality that others seem to have (and everyone else says it sucks, so I'm wanting to see what the talk is all about).
I tried out Winamp for a while because that's a pretty popular one and I didn't really like it. It seemed to be a little buggy and I think it was making my sound card crash (no evidence of that specifically, but I believe it was the only common factor in all the crashes). Plus something was wrong with the ordering of the songs on my playlist and every, say, 10th time I would reorder it by title or whatever it would be in a different order than before. The whole program in general just didn't seem very consistent.
Right now I'm using foobar2000 and I like it a lot more than Winamp. I especially like the fact that the program itself seems to be pretty lightweight (although the actual playing of the music obv takes a decent chunk of memory). It also has a nice search feature that cleanly searches through your playlist in real time as you type out your search term. I haven't fully explored the program yet, but I like what I've seen so far.
Anyway, what media players do you guys use and what do you like about them? I'm trying to find the ultimate media player that I'll be 100% happy with.

I just use VLC for everything. I don't care to make playlists, and I just leave the equalizer on default so I hear the sounds like it was formatted to.
I used to use Winamp for music. But now it's just VLC. Everything except some screenshot settings are on default. Did I mention you can capture screenshots with VLC? Yeah, it's very handy.

Er, I meant for music. I guess I forgot to mention that. I use VLC for everything video related. I definitely love that program.

iTunes. I prefer to use programs that come with the OS as long as it's functional for my needs (which iTunes is).
On my PC, I use Windows Media Player 11.

On my own computer I use Winamp v2.91 and my parents' computer has some unstable release of Amarok.

Depends on the situation. If I'm streaming trance music off of DI.FM, I'll use WMP because it has the highest rate for their free service. For the music in my HDD, I'll just use the Creative player that came with my MP3 player. VLC is just for movies.

Roger that. I concede that iTunes is a giant bowl of donkey dicks on a Windows machine, but iTunes on my MacBook + my iPhone is the most robust and easy-to-use means of media presentation/organization I've ever come across.ElectroGhandi wrote:iTunes. As for me...
Coolplayer (just the .exe file and one skin; portable) - music
MPlayer Portable - video
ffplay (just the .exe file; portable) - music, video
...and I suppose I'd use VLC if those failed.

Re: What Media Player Do You Use?
I use and switch between Windows Media Player 11 and WinAMP for my music.
I use WMP11 for some videos (such as WMV HD, DiVX, XVid) but I am a huge fan of h.264 and Quicktime, so I use Quicktime player a lot to play videos. Quicktime is the best thing to come from Apple, period. It's the foundation for everything else they make, and for good reason. I also use iTunes on occasion.

Itunes for music just for the ease of putting crap on my iPod and playlist management. VLC for video.

1) ONLY supports very few formats. Where's the FLAC support? OGG? APE? For the majority of the population, this isnt a problem at all.
2) Adding more music to the library requires an external utility written by someone other than Apple!. That is the height of stupidity. It should either detect songs automatically, or offer a quick and easy way to update the library without having to completely rescan (Zune software excels at auto-detecting changes in your music library quickly and efficiently). Rescan? Auto detect? That shit is gay and I have no idea what youre talking about. I manually add all of the music I download once I have renamed it, organized it, and otherwise set it to MY specifications. Itunes blows at music sorting on both Crapple products and PCs
3) You cannot select music like a civilized person. Example: if you select a song, then try to SHIFT down to select more music at once, fine. But then, if you try to SHIFT up, it selects MORE music from the top of your highlighted list! This is NOT standard Windows behavior. In the civilized world, when you go the opposite way with SHIFT select, it unselects entries from the bottom. Undoubtedly gay
4) Inability to play a single song from the library. You always get the gigantic and neverending list, and it automatically plays the next song in the list. Sometimes I don't want that. If I wanted to play more songs, I'd either make a playlist, or manually select and play the album (like I do in Winamp). That little search bar in the top. Type in it. You can get a single song. Annoying, but entirely possible
5) Slow. Again, a huge gayocity factor
6) Always nagging whether you want to upgrade until you check it and tell it to shut the hell up. Meh, thats all programs for you. AIM, Java, etc.
7) Download is a HUGE file size, and also includes the shittest video player ever - Quicktime. What a piece of shit shitty ass f**k piece of shit shitass shitmuching shitmonkey shitware.Delete Quicktime (which is key for some online videos, by the way)
Other stuff I can't remember now
The only reason I have it is because it's the only way to sync my iPHone with my Outlook and music - because of course, Apple can't imagine allowing other things to support the iPhone.
