I do believe there's something to the "Italian tune-up," regardless of the type of vehicle...Occasionally.

VW says 11 million diesel vehicles worldwide have rigged emissions software


BERLIN (Bloomberg) -- About 11 million Volkswagen vehicles worldwide have diesel engines with software “irregularities,” as the scandal that started in the U.S. widens.

Examinations have shown that the emission-control software built into U.S. models that were found to be violating U.S. clean air rules has also been used in other VW group diesel cars, VW said in a statement today.

The automaker plans to set aside 6.5 billion euros ($7.3 billion) in the third quarter to cover the costs of addressing the issue

What does that really have to do with the rest of this thread lol...

I wind my first gear out till like 3 to 4k. I find I'm no longer that guy who's holding up traffic.

Everything! That fine German Engineering that is reportedly designed to have turbo boost/combustion pressure seal the piston rings is also designed to fool any emissions testers into thinking it is a clean, green, Diesel machine when in fact it is a obscenely polluting cheating machine.

Billions and Billions of Euros

Reports out of Germany say the emissions cheating scandal could end up costing Volkswagen 40 billion euros. That’s a staggering amount of money and the now company is desperately trying to cut costs anywhere it can. VW is asking suppliers for price cuts to the tune of 3 billion euros. That is going to hurt VW’s biggest suppliers such as Bosch and Continental. It’s also cutting investments by $1 billion, which could slow down some new product development. Standard & Poor’s just downgraded VW’s credit rating and warned that more cuts will come. And just to rub salt in the wound, now Hollywood is going to make a movie about it. Both Paramount, along with the production company owned by actor Leonardo DiCaprio, have bought the rights to the film.

VW COULD LOSE BRANDS - From Autoline Daily
Volkswagen AG could come out of its cheating scandal as a smaller company. VW has 12 different brands, but some analysts believe the company is going to have to sell some of those brands to pay for its emissions scandal. Bloomberg reports the cost of that scandal could hit $34 billion. Analysts point out that several of VW’s brands are not core to its business, including Ducati, the motorcycle maker, as well as Lamborghini and Bugatti, which sell in very low volume. Seat is another VW brand that is not profitable, but analysts say trying to close that down would cause a boardroom fight with board members who represent unions. They also say VW has failed to find any synergies with its heavy truck companies, MAN and Scania, and believe that it will have to spin them off, but perhaps retain a stake in them. And so we could be on the verge of seeing the VW empire taken apart, piece by piece.

VW bounced out of best-engine contest
"We discussed it at length," Wardsauto.com senior editor Tom Murphy says. "What VW admitted to is very troubling, and it still hasn't come clean with all the details. There are too many unknowns."

Four VW and Audi would have been eligible for the 2016 award, three gasoline and one electric. VW returned three awards the disgraced diesels had won from Ward's over the years.

"Volkswagen of America, seeking to contain the damage from its emissions scandal, will offer to buy back some used diesel vehicles from its U.S. dealers at pre-crisis prices, Automotive News has learned."
