Looks good...even with the black steelies.

So.........what's the story with the GTI? What kind of problems were you dealing with? And why didn't you get a stick on the GTI???

well...
When I got the GTI, I didn't know how to drive a manual.
I test drove a manual GTI, and stalled it like 100 times (with exaggeration) I couldn't get out of the dealer lot.
I got scared and got DSG. HAHA
Thanks to my friend with a manual car (128i), I practiced little bit and was ok when test drove the A3. lol

within first 2 weeks of ownership, DSG problem (gear shifting into neutral on its own, almost got me killed while cruising on a highway at 100km/hr)

after the DSG problem got taken care of under warranty,

bulbs, electrical problems, vandalism on christmas eve, got rear ended, front right tire sidewall exploded,

I liked the GTI so much that I had no problem going through all this but the bodyshop that had worked on the rear bumper of my car didn't do a good painting job so I had to re do everything (bumper, hatch, rear quarter panel) 3 times.
I kept getting what they call 'fish eyes' and the insurance company wouldn't let me go to another shop. They wanted to give the body shop a chance to correct their mistakes before sending me to another bodyshop, is what they said.
After all the painting jobs, the car just wasn't the same as before.
so, I decided to sell the GTI and get a car with manual transmission.
I wanted to get a GTI with manual but decided on A3 because it's basically the same car but more luxurious. LESS FUN THOUGH.

Wow...that sucks about the GTI.

And the A3 is really less fun? Even with it being a stick?

yes, GTI is a lot sportier.
A3 is more like a comfort car.

I'm gonna start modding next year, suspension, tune, and exhaust and see if it changes anything.

I lol'ed when I got to sidewall explosion. Not that I like when things go wrong with people's cars, but I do love it when people admit their car had a bunch of dumb little problems.

The A3 looks awesome on the steelies. Style and utility.

Both are beautiful, kayubassist! :D The GTI is one of the original "hot hatches":
The car which popularised the concept of the hot hatch is the 1976 Volkswagen Golf GTI, announced at the 1975 Frankfurt Motor Show.

My 27-YO son has a black 2003 GTI MT and has had to put some $ into it. He doesn't rate its reliability as high, but loves it and it is a fun and sporty ride. My older son has an Audi A4 MT which he also loves. They are gorgeous cars beyond a doubt with a beautiful fit and finish...but finicky and requiring meticulous maintenance. IMO.

Your pic of the road to Whistler has me thinking about a trip there this summer! :)
