Adam, the Z is notorious for being very cramped under the hood. In the goat there is so much room on the sides of the motor that I can carry like 4 regular loafs of bread there and not have it smushed.

Yep . 10 & 12 mm galore, 14mm isn't too rare, 17 and 19 mm for big stuff. The FC also throws a 54mm curveball.eaglecatcher wrote:I'm guessing most jap cars are like this, but it's like 75% of the bolts are 10mm and 24% are 12mm. The other 1% is other lol.

Re: Eaglecatcher's 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo (pics on pg.
Well just felt like updating this thread. Last summer the Z broke down about once a week. Got it all sorted out and drove to NY and has been mostly good since. Made it up to Montreal and back also no sweat. Haven't done any work to it since I got to school since lying in a dirt driveway isn't conducive to wrenching, but it'll be spring soon which means time to get some stuff underway to prepare for summer. I'm starting to collect some goodies for projects. A little hint of what I just bought which should be here this week or next:
Also going to try and afford new bigger injectors, a tune, and a boost controller by the summer.
Hopefully I'll get some updated pics and a soundclip or two of the exhaust, but I think my car is buried under a foot of snow right now (it's in NY and I'm in TX for break).

It's a MAP sensor conversion and also a basic Air/Fuel controller (only really adjusts idle mixture, initial throttle on/off response, and whole map adjustments). The main reason is for the MAP sensor conversion though lol.wannabe wrote:^^ What is that, whats it used for ???
I want to run some simplified intake piping and BOV's which can't be done with the traditional MAF setup.

it can be, but it'll just run rich as balls whenever you dump the gas.eaglecatcher wrote:It's a MAP sensor conversion and also a basic Air/Fuel controller (only really adjusts idle mixture, initial throttle on/off response, and whole map adjustments). Re: Eaglecatcher's 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo (pics on pg.
Fortunately there's an adjustment on this unit to adjust initial response, so that should cure that issue. I will also be getting a custom tune this upcoming summer which should take care of any other issues.LHOswald wrote:it can be, but it'll just run rich as balls whenever you dump the gas.eaglecatcher wrote:It's a MAP sensor conversion and also a basic Air/Fuel controller (only really adjusts idle mixture, initial throttle on/off response, and whole map adjustments). I will have more pics eventually. The Z is in NY right now and I'm back in TX for winter break, so it won't be until January until I'm even back in the car.
Also getting HID headlights for Christmas, so that should be sweet.
EDIT: Oh wow I totally misinterpreted your statement about running rich lol. That's certainly true, and it can be fixed with an AFC of sorts, but I'd rather do a MAP conversion. It's cheaper, and allows me to repipe my intake system (all 20+ feet of it) to make it simpler and give me more room in the engine bay.
Bleh.

Not to mention the throttle response would be 1000x snappier.eaglecatcher wrote: It's cheaper, and allows me to repipe my intake system (all 20+ feet of it) to make it simpler and give me more room in the engine bay.
