Which one do you currently buy from more often?
Do either of them offer incentives with their card?
Personally, if I had measured a fuel economy improvement with one, I'd go with that one. Worst case scenario, money saved on fuel over the years pays for an occasional fuel system cleaning, but I don't think it would be necessary.

We don't have chevron here, only shell. Having sad that - they are both top tier fuel companes and at this time I would go with the one that has better incentives or one that I use more often based on locations in the areas I drive the most.

Not too concern about the reward of the cards to be honest, mostly with the best mpg, looks like i struggle to get 120miles for half a tank with chevron (around 21-23avg mpg) driving not crazy, and with shell i went up to GMR did a few runs running the car in 2nd and 3rd the whole way and got 130 for half a tank again around 21-23 in way diff conditions.

That was a long sentence.
Seems like you're having better result with one over the other. The answer for you is pretty clear - go with works best according to your experience.

Personally I prefer Chevron over Shell. I've had better results with Chevron over any other gas station.
