Let's see your knives!

Post by AHTOXA »

Let's see what you own and/or carry - there's got to be some good knives owned on this forums. I tried to take the best pictures I could given the lighting and a camera phone.

I don't have any collector's knives as I use all that I own. Allow me to start off:

SOG Jungle Canopy. Heavy duty camp knife.
Image

Ontario TAK-1. My main camping knife. Hand-made sheath, which just recently broke, as you can see. Getting it fixed this weekend.
Image

Your run of the mill Mora with some nice patina that developed over the years I've had it. Bushcraft knife. Hand made left side draw sheath. Untanned raw cowhide.
Image

Buck 110 Hunter lockback. My other EDC; brass needs to be polished on it. I've carried this thing since 2008.
Image

Ontario RAT-1. My current EDC.
Image

Leatherman Skeletool. I carry it when I'm out riding in addition to a small allen set.

And finally, this guy. CRKT Folts Minimalist; wharncliffe point blade. With a total weight of 1.6oz (knife AND sheath), it will be an alternative EDC for when I need a smaller, lighter and more concealable knife than my RAT or Buck. Ordered today, expecting arrival early next week.

My EDC, a Kershaw Chill. I really like this knife. It's very thin and lightweight, and the flipper is convenient. It only cost around $20, too. From my limited knowledge of knives, the blade steel isn't the best out there (8Cr13MoV), but it's been fine for me so far.

I want to get a nice 'medium sized' fixed blade knife next. I honestly don't have much use for one, but they're cool  .

Used to carry several daily while I was in the military; but gotten out of the habit lately... For a while I was traveling heavily, so I pretty much gave up on an EDC from that, and haven't gotten back into it yet.

I do keep a Leatherman Wave in my car, and a small Swiss army I carry still; but it is pretty unglorious...

I've recently been researching a new EDC; currently I have it narrowed down to one of these most likely:

Matt, how do you like sharpening a recurve blade? Issues? Any benefits in your opinion of a regurve blade versus regular straight plain edge?

I've never sharpened it before, so I can't answer that.

This looks interesting...

I used to EDC cheap one-handed lockbacks with partially serrated edge and a belt clip (I placed it inside my pocket with the clip on the outside so it was easy to reach but not sticking out) or alternatively one of these (similar design but uses replaceable utility knife blades):
Image

When I had a regular knife I didn't want to use it for construction materials and have to grind off half the blade daily, so when I was in that kind of context the utility knife blade ones were great, I could cut any random crap as carelessly as I wanted.
