I dunno, but that's the first launch a new stick driver should learn. It teaches a number of things:

1) How the clutch feels when it bites
2) How the car's RPMs will dip, no matter what you do, when you launch
3) Where the friction/engagement point is on the car
4) Patience

And it reduces the complexity of learning to one motion, rather than two.

One reason nobody really ever uses it is because it is S-L-O-W. If you want a line of slushies to get really angry at a light, use the no gas launch and listen to the chorus of honking horns.

It pretty much will never work if you're on an incline as well.

Automatic transmissions use transmission fluid not only as a "clutch" (torque converter), but also to change gears. So, out of fear, loathing, hatred, or whatever, we call them "slushies." The term also refers to the slushie feeling you get when the car changes gears, especially in older transmissions.

that's why it's mainly a practice/learning technique and imo really only useful on the street in bumper to bumper traffic. and yeah no-gas up a hill probably won't work unless you've got mounds of torque. down a hill though will make it much easier.

That is why GTOs are t3h pw|\|z0rz of 411. I think that qualifies as mounds.

Is it just me or does it seem to be a trend that people's minds have been becoming dirtier here...ahahaha

(not that i mind)

On-topicness: Yeah, no-gas launches basically just help you learn where the grabbing point of your clutch is, not really practically useful otherwise. Don't do it on the street unless you want the people behind you to get mad...and then if you DO actually no-gas launch on the street, make your 1-2 shift really, really slow too and see how long you can keep the slushies honking at you :P
