hello shifters

Post by marudh »

Hi all,

Let me say hi to all the rookies, masters and the gurus.

I just bought a 2001 330i and I am really struggling with the stick. Being in america where almost everyone drives an automatic, having a manual would make me stand out from the crowd, or so I thought. Now, I wish I was in the crowd.

But I am patient, let me see if I can conquer this thing...

Welcome. Just keep at it and you'll get it.

BMW is a great car to learn on ... I wish I had one when I was learning. And yours being a 330, you really hardly need any gas to get going.

Congrats on coming to the Dark Side. Or...is this the Light Side? Meh, it's the Up-side of the Schwartz.

I felt the same way after buying my car, but don't worry. After a while, you won't care about being in crowds anymore. It'll just flow.

thanks guys, i am getting confident now, after couple of days of practice i guess i have reduced my stall rate down to 1 in 100 launches. I am still working on reducing the jerkiness in 1 to 2 and 2 to 3. also my N to 1 is kinda chirpy..

I was the same way for about two weeks after getting mine. I was like "maybe I shoudn't have done this. what if I'm no good. what if I destroy the clutch"

then I started to get better, and I realized how much more fun it is than an auto. Now, I'm to the point where, although I'm still not perfect, I don't even think about shifting. From here on out, its just tweaking my techinque to get it even better. You will get better, just go out and have some fun with your car, and most of all, relax.

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

Nice to have you here.
Feel free to ask any questions that you need answered.

:D

Don't worry. You'll get the hang of it. It only took me a week to get going pretty good, once I understood how the transmission worked. Once I had some tips, my launches smoothed out quite nicely.
