ORLY? Shite ain't stock, yo  .
Although, I garage my car every night on the off chance a bird decides it needs to void its bowels, which seems to be any time I DON'T park in the garage.

RWD in winter really isn't that bad, it just takes a little ballast and a little practice.

Completely agreed. With the right tires there is little issue. Surely there are limitations and sometimes more finesse and skill could be involved but it's fine.

Id garage the Viggen if I could. Its a rare car. No, its not everybodys cup of tea, but its still something pretty special.

I really want a first gen Honda Insight as a daily beater. Or a 4WD 5speed Ranger.

Son, I'm proud you.
Two suggestions:
Manual transfer case, manual hubs. Seems the former of the two is a bit difficult to get your hands on for some reason.

Rangers of that nature and a Landcruiser 70 series diesel 5speed are my two favorite trucks

Word. Seems the electric transfer case on my '97 was its worst part, although I suspect it would have worked better if it had gotten used once in a while.

Correct. Without regular use, they tend to disagree about moving away from 2wd, so... Regular use for the electronic ones is a must.

As for the auto locking hubs being bad, they burn out. When they do so, they either stick unlocked (no success with 4wd until this is fixed) or they stick locked, a.k.a. you have a problem now.
