new from DC
Well, I'm just glad to find a forum dedicated to manual transmission awareness! I've only owned manuals in my almost 20 years of driving and hope to continue to do so. But, as we all know, the interest in engaged driving in this country is waning, and so has the manual transmission.
This really hit home, when test driving a Pontiac G8 GT last year. This car was everything I wanted, but to get a manual transmission, I would basically have to pay like 15K more for the GPX, so I thought, maybe I should give the G8 GT a try (only has auto). After test driving it, i was totally disappointed, I just couldn't understand how such a solid machine be dulled with auto.
Since then, I'm back to considering another machine, and hope I find get a better idea what my options are!

Welcome to SS and congrats to sticking with the manual. It is sad to see how many cars are not being offered with manuals anymore. Might I suggest a Pontiac GTO if you don't mind the loss of two doors? Two of our current members have them and they are terrific cars (having experienced one).

Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
entering the Gnome Valley Kingdom
with tangerine trees, and marmalade porkchops.
Someone calls you, you answer with haste,
a man with a clutch in his hand.
Celefane shift boots of yellow and green, towering over your head.
Look for the man with the clutch in his hand and hes gone.
Noob in the land of Gnomes.
Noob in the land of Gnomes.
Noob in the land of Gnomes.
Follow him down to the thread by a fountain.
Where a bunch of men talk about marshmellow pie.
Everyone smiles a you drift around the corner.
Then they all get high.
Clutch holding men appear on the shore, waiting to take you away.
Noob in the land of Gnomes. Noob in the land of Gnomes. Noob in the land of Gnomes.
Picture yourself in a forum of transmissions.
With plastercine cars, and lookingglass Gnomes.
Look to the left and who do you see?
The man with a clutch in his hand.
Noob in the land of Gnomes.
Noob in the land of Gnomes.
Noob in the land of Gnomes.
Oh yea, it's G8 GXP, and with a S/C it is the best car... Ever.

Yeah, the GTO seems like a good choice, it's got a nice V8, and you can get a manual. Not sure I like the looks, but it probably doesn't attract a lot of attention, which is good!94Corolla5Speed wrote:Welcome to SS and congrats to sticking with the manual. WRONG! Ricers always give attention. Which can be fun.ShiftItDriveIt wrote:Yeah, the GTO seems like a good choice, it's got a nice V8, and you can get a manual. Welcome.
So you're looking for a big, muscly American V8 type of car? If so, like others said, a GTO seems to fit your needs pretty well. Of course, there are other options, but we really don't have much of an idea about how much you're willing to spend, what exactly you're looking for, etc.

Yeah, the G8 GT not being offered without a manual is such a downer, and the GXP is just too expensive (at least for me.) Still, there are plenty of great cars out there still offering manual transmissions, even more if you are open to used cars.
Keep us updated on your car searching. Buying a car is so exciting to me that I will live vicariously through you, lol.
And welcome!

After owning a C6 Corvette for a couple of years, I really like the V8 and rear wheel drive, but for the lack of opportunity to really enjoy it, it wasn't worth the cost. You really need a track. My current ride is now just a 2004 zx3 focus, but I really enjoy that car, except for the 130hp. I'm still surprised how well it handles.
Well, I'm not too serious about buying yet, I'm hoping US Ford Focus RS rumors might be true for 2011!
