New Guy

Post by Gutarm »

Hey everyone! I just bought my first manual car, 2004 civic si, and am really loving it! I really want to say how awesome this forum is. It has been really helpful in learning how to drive stick. I think for the most part I have got a good feel for the vehicle my only hurdles I still have are reversing slow without stalling, driving in rush hour, and in the snow. I had a quick question if anyone would know. I park in a tight garage space and when I reverse I find myself without enough time to release the clutch fully. Is it ok to feather it a lot when reversing or is there a better technique? I don't want to burn my clutch right away!

Welcome to SS.com... Very nice choice in vehicles I like EP3's, lots of mod's out there for them. As for your question on feathering the clutch, you might want to try bringing it up till the engagement point to get rolling and add some gas then pushign it back in (N) and letting the car roll, repeat untill finished.

welcome to the site. :)

what you said for reversing is fine. as would be a little throttle blip/feather clutch/clutch in/repeat. most of my reversing is done at low speeds over short distances and when the engine is cold (so at high idle), and so i almost never fully engage the clutch or touch the throttle when i'm reversing.

+1 to what Jomo said

If I fully engaged the clutch and/or added too much gas backing into my parking spot at my apartment I'd probably end up putting myself through my downstair neighbor's living room window.

Also... welcome!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the info! This is the only image I have of the car from the dealership site, but as soon as it warms up a little around here (Minnesota) I will post them!
