You drive a compact pickup...you of all people should know how to get sideways without the flick.
there are zillion ways to get the car going sideways,
handbrake
scandinavian flick

with RWD cars
full throttle on corner, cause wheelspin, and slide..
shiftlock (might cause damage to differential, gearbox, or engine)

But if we start talking about drifting... you will use all of the above, and more.
If we talk raceing, like Formulas, and indy cars, you will not use any of those.
If we talk about rally, you use some of those...

so what are we talking about, ot are we going off topic again :)

lol i was just kidding. there are at least 10 different ways to drift. probably more like 20 but i only know of about 10.

but you would be surprised how many people can't do, let alone even know about the scandinavian flick. most drifters would much rather rip the e-brake than worry about the weight transition of their vehicle. when in reality weight transition is the best way to drift but hey...ricer driving isnt the best way to drive either so...noones perfect

well weight transfer would be transferring weight from one side to the other, weight transition is the actual act of transferring the weight.

This type of raceing is unfamiliar to me, so I can.t anwser on thisone :(
I would need to know what kind of tracks those thigs drive (oval, or something more curvy) and how the brakes work on those cars (front/rear ratio)
testdriving would be ideal way to find an anwser :)

the sprint cars are around 700-900hp or so front engined v8s, usually 360 or 410 ci, 1500lbs or so and direct drive. There's also an outlaw sprint, which is the same thing with huge wings.

don't know the specifics of the brakes but I'm sure there are pretty puny. They don't brake or use a Scandinavian flick, the car just rotates naturally on the dirt surface with the tires they use, any they control it with the throttle and steering.

I tought something like this, but because I have seen only few 2 second clips of those "outlaw" things so I couldent be sure about anything.

Found thisone from youtube, there is British car journlist (from Top Gear) in finland "learning" how to drive

I have been raceing on this series 4 years, but I had to end it beacause I didnt have anymore place to keep that racer.
I had 15 different racers 1 totalled, 14 I had to sell, due the rules of the race, It was fun as long as it went though :)

Maybe it's because it was a 2000 year model? The dsc is extremely awkward and IMO, reduces control from driver input. I tested it out in the snow, it tends to do what you don't want/expect it to do.

From memory, let's say I was going slightly faster than normal for a curb, I turn, rear slides out, you balance, I want the car to slide a bit and turn. DSC on? You just understeer for a while scared while you expect something else to happen.

I usually leave it on when driving on long trips during winter season just "incase". Anything else, it's off, even during a snowstorm, it's more fun, and offers more control.

Not sure if others share my views on this. I know the stability control systems of newer cars are much better?

Just got the mkvi gti :) I drive with ESP off, just cause lol. I'm not sure how good it is but I'll find out this winter. (I know it's FF) :P

IIRC, the brake pedal operates the left-front and single-rear disc that's bolted to the solid axle. This action initiates the left turn while the rear end skids to the right.

you're probably right, i just assumed the skid happens naturally, thats just what it looked like to me.
