No, the Dakota was much bigger than the little pick-m-up from Mitsubitty that Dodge was offering. The original SUV based on the Dakota that was worked on in the late '80s never made it past the first prototypes before it got cancelled. ...And when you say Dakota-based SUV, you're talking about something more akin to a "Ramcharger 50" that would have slotted against the Bronco II, not something like what ultimately became the Durango?
