It's about time . . .
for a car company(guess which one it is before you hit the link) to promote manual transmissions
"The campaign is also for those of us who see a sports car, can't resist taking a peek into the cockpit, and are rewarded for our curiosity with a sinking feeling once we glimpse that cushy sequential shifter and those big "D, D1, R, N, P" toddler-style letters on the center console: the new campaign includes car stickers that tell passers-by that the vehicle has a stick"

The percentages they present by region are interesting...I guess that's why we have so many northeastern-region folks on this forum.

Mini was one of my guesses before I read the article. I was trying to think of companies that don't have a HUGE variety of cars they sell. That would limit the "manual up" campaign if they sold vehicles with auto-only. I was thinking it could also be for something like the Corvette, because they sometimes do separate advertising campaigns for that/Mustang/etc...
And do you really think it's 50% manual transmissions in the NE? That seems optimistic to me, but could just be my cynicism...

I don't see many...eh, any...Minis here in NE. I guess if two have been sold one might be manual.

I actually see a decent number of them here. And by that, I know I've seen more than 5 different ones. So that's something for WV. I do not know whether they were manuals or not: the majority of those 5-10 I've seen were parked while I was driving past, or driving on a highway.

There are a ton of Minis.theholycow wrote:I don't see many...eh, any...Minis here in NE. I guess if two have been sold one might be manual.
And that ad campaign is pretty obviously Mini

I know that feeling well. Whenever I see a car that I know is available with a stick, I always take a peek to see if it has a stick shift. I'm always disappointed when it doesn't...
Surprisingly though, there are a lot of people with stick shifts where I work. And yes, a few Minis as well.

Speaking of stickshifts at work. 3/4 people in the office that drive manual as their everyday car work for me. Coincidence? Yes. Lol.

I'd actually put a sticker like this on my car's window if I could get one in a small size. Sort of a "save the manuals" conversation piece...
Re: It's about time . . .
At my job, it is the QA people who are the cool ones driving sticks. They have a Volkswagen CC, BMW 328i, Mustang GT Vert, Civic, and an S2000. And three of them are owned/driven by girls.AHTOXA wrote:Speaking of stickshifts at work. 3/4 people in the office that drive manual as their everyday car work for me. Coincidence? Yes. Lol.
