I think the new Ferrari looks quite good. I agree about the "bling" aspect of Lambos, too. I would much rather have a Ferrari.

But I would like to see a bunch of Lotus instead of Jags compared to Ferrari. At least Lotus has the good sense to find a proper manual transmission to hook up with a Camry engine. Ferrari keeps rolling out 2 pedals "sports car"

I think he was talking about how the Jaguar X-Type is on the same platform as the Ford Mondeo (not Taurus).

And yeah, it's a shame to see these sports cars with a faux manumatic shifter. I can see how the computer shifting for you would help with performance, and that's great and all, but if I shell out $300,000 for a Ferrari, I want to enjoy driving it! Haha.

it only helps performance because it shifts a little bit faster. automatics (no matter how good) will slip against the flywheel due to the slush torque converter. that, and the fact that it requires more engine power to operate the automatic, and the auto tranny is heavier than a manual, means that an automatic is less suited for racing than a standard.

in my mind from worse to best with performance in mind is

CVT - worst
Automatic - the devil lol
Manual - most fun
DCG - best

through my recent seeing of the light (working\driving hondas) i can safely say that a properly tuned honda is faster than any street car ever. and most definitely cheaper than any italian super car

That is incorrect.

Hondas have their merits but they are no were near Ferraris. That's like comparing apples to donkeys.

Honda's are faster than any car for their price. Ferrari's = thousands of dollars for speed. Honda's = hundreds of dollars for same speed

if you had a honda with as much power as a new ferrari you'd have some big arms from wrestling with the torque steer...

You can't argue with that logic.

Anyway, I guess it depends on what your definition of "fast" is. Sure, a stripped down Civic with a huge turbo will be fast in a straight line from like 60-120, but it is going to suck ass from 0-60. It's also probably going to handle like crap with all the torque steer.

Personally, I'd rather sacrifice some of the raw FWD power for a car that handles well and is fast and can connect in all gears. That's not to say tuned Hondas aren't great at what they do, I just don't think they're for me.

That being said, the fastest car I've ever been in was a friend's ~450whp '00 Civic Si back in high school. That thing was nuts and pushed you back in your seat like no other car I've been in. My friend's arms would shake like crazy from the torque steer though, lol.
