Various flavors of automatics are taking over the rest of the world, trends are pointing to the majority of new cars are now automatics in Europe and Asia.

Re: Ford killing manuals by 2013
I made a topic about the projected %s of transmission types in western European cars. It was somewhere in the tranny talk forum. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=10687&p=214297&hil ... es#p214297Standardshifter wrote:Various flavors of automatics are taking over the rest of the world, trends are pointing to the majority of new cars are now automatics in Europe and Asia.

Their source is "Manager of Ford Automatic Transmission Engineering," but who knows?

to whoever commented about taking a manual out of a mustang, mustang is made to be a drag car. drag = auto.
id imagine ford GT will be the only one left with a manual, or maybe it will go to a paddle shift, but i hope not.

Paddle shifters are just another interface for the same transmission...I'd be surprised if they deliver any model with their dual-dry-clutch tranny but without manual control, whether it be paddles, +/- buttons, or the shifter that you tap forward/back.permabanned wrote:id imagine ford GT will be the only one left with a manual, or maybe it will go to a paddle shift, but i hope not.
What I'd really like to see is a manual-style H-gate for those. They start putting those in and people will get re-interested in manual transmissions. It could be the area past the 'D', so you could still have PRND but then the H-gate.

Re: Ford killing manuals by 2013
It's not like they make many manual-versions of their small cars presently anyway...
While the article says 100% of Ford's transmissions will be advanced six-speeds, it did not specifically mention they will all be the new "PowerShift" transmissions. Maybe the "advanced six-speeds" includes manual six-speed gearboxes (which are considered advanced since six-speeds are mostly in sports-cars).

True. The 2.5L in the 2010 Fusion comes standard with a 6-speed manual. I wouldn't be surprised if the upcoming Fiesta came standard with a manual as well, seeing as how it's practically a European car. And then finally, you also have the Ford trucks, many of which also offer manuals. I guess we'll have to wait and see.six wrote:It's not like they make many manual-versions of their small cars presently anyway...

I didn't know that. Very cool.DrNick wrote:True. The 2.5L in the 2010 Fusion comes standard with a 6-speed manual.
I doubt that their lineup offered manuals on anything other than base model work trucks, just as other manufacturers did.you also have the Ford trucks, many of which also offer manuals. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

^ I believe PowerStroke Diesels came with optional six-speed manuals.

Re: Ford killing manuals by 2013
there are practical advantages to an auto? which would those be?theholycow wrote:FWIW, the transmission described there is not a slushbox. While lacking the clutch pedal and tactile feedback of the manual transmission, it does retain almost all of the practical advantages of the manual (and most of the practical advantages of the auto too).
I didn't know that Ford was working on that type of transmission.
I'd be surprised if they completely stop offering manual transmissions.

Everything above the F-150 (F-150 not included) is available with a manual. The only exceptions are the King Ranch and Harley-Davidson trims.dieselboy77 wrote:only truck comes with manuals in ford its 350, its all manual, autos are only options
