Post by jomotopia »

based on US driving laws: http://moneycentral.msn.com/quiz/drivin ... /home.aspx

i got a 95.

i like the averages at the end:
The average score for your state is: 81
The average score for men is: 83
The average score for women is: 78
^^ it says most states require an 80 or better to get a license

85 here. I hate those tests, I always second (and third) guess my answers on half of the questions.

I got 90. Average score for my state: 81, average score for my age group: 76... I think I did pretty well. I got the under the influence question and the first person to approach the intersection wrong.

I got a 100 and there was no guessing involved.
The average score for your state is: 81
I think I agree with 81 for Texas as a whole, but most drivers in Austin would probably score around a 5.

20. If you approach an intersection at the same time as another vehicle, who has the right of way?
Your answer: The first one who enters the intersection.
Correct answer: The driver on the right.
The first one to enter the intersection always has right of way. Only if there's not a first one to enter, does it go to the driver on the right. The question doesn't say that there isn't a third car that entered the intersection first.

So, 95%, with that one the only one I was marked wrong on...

Average score for RI: 78

95 here too. There's a button to review answers on top. I got the one with the yellow light wrong. Question asked what to do when light turns from green to yellow. I answered proceed. The correct answer was stop before proceeding unless you are unable to.

90.

I thought a left turn across the double yellow without traveling in the wrong direction while on the road was so obvious they wouldn't have explicitly made an exception for it, so I read that as traveling against traffic for a short distance, so I said never.

I also forgot you could refuse a breathalyzer. One of those pieces of information they really emphasize, but never really mattered to me.

95.

What should you see in your rear view mirror before attempting to return to the right lane after passing a vehicle on the left?
Your answer: The driver of the car that you are passing.
Correct answer: The bumper of the car that you are passing.

90% as well.

I get pissed of when they make these type of questions:
10.
If a police officer believes that you are driving under the influence:
Your answer: You can refuse to be tested for the presence of alcohol or drugs.
Correct answer: You can refuse to be tested but will face stiff penalties for doing so.

I simply stated that you can refuse to be tested. Which is true.

And this:
A vehicle is passing you on the left. You should:
Your answer: Keep driving at the same speed and do not slow down.
Correct answer: Slow down slightly and keep to the right. After the vehicle passes and is ahead of you, resume your normal speed.

It should depend upon each case; of course you will want to act accordingly depending on the circumstances. I didn't know what to choose.
I sure as hell don't slow down every time someone tries to pass me.

Tests like these remind me of how mad I used to get at the DMV driving test. They create and phrase them poorly. I had to take the DMV one 3 times. They do it on purpose!! Why can't they formulate non-variable scenarios and appropriate, clearly phrased courses of actions or answers for said scenarios?
