Alittle over 2 years. March of 2011 was when I initially started driving the 91 as my DD, but I drove it once in October of 2010.

I think I was a junior in high school when I first drove the FC. So, about 5 years. I haven't driven stick since last summer, though

This is how I first learned as well. I turned 16 in 1993 and have driven a stick shift ever since. I actually have very little experience in automatics and tend to slam both feet on the brake and accidentally pop them out of gear trying to shift... But I was shifting before then so all I really needed to learn was working the pedals and getting the timing (besides actually driving and obeying traffic rules). I think I was around 12 when he first started letting me shift from the passenger side.

I really don't remember at all how long it took to be proficient because it happened as I was becoming proficient at driving. Certainly before I took my driving test 7 months later because the driving tester actually tested my ability to drive the stick as well. And I think within a year or two I didn't even think about it anymore - hence the mistakes if I ever rent a car!
