I do have to admit I have thought about going automatic for a bit. Though I just know I am going to be bored with it in about 2 weeks time. I'm really hankering for one of those Chevrolet SS/Camaro

I ended up renting a 2017 V6 Camaro a few weeks ago.

Full disclosure: I am a guy that would never buy a V6 Camaro. Or a V6 (or god forbid a turbo-4) Mustang. Never. I don't care what the numbers say or what the journalists say. I won't.

I drove it for a week. Drove it in town, on the highway, and most importantly, in the twisties of SoCal.

I loved how it handled and drove. There was a lot of power from that V6 and the delivery was great. Even the stock exhaust was somewhat European-snarly and snorty - it sounded great and totally unlike I would have expected a Camaro to sound. Full throttle wide-open shifts from 2-3 (automatic, of course) were the sort of prrrwaaaa-prrr-pwaaaaa snort in the middle of the shift. But the noises aside, the car handled fantastic and inspired confidence. After a few days I really wanted to push just a little more and I went onto a mountain road that I've driven before there and let it rip (granted, with some restraint) and it felt good. Planted under power and somewhat neutral coming out of the corner, although you could certain force the matter with your right foot. A little bit of understeer coming into and up until mid corner but nothing major. Then, roll into it and giggle all the way out of the corner and into the next one.

It was a very, very good car and I understand why many journalists have stated that a V6 Camaro with a manual is an enthusiast's car. I get it.

None the less, I'd not buy a manual if it were my money. If it's a pony car I'm going to own, it better be a V8, but that's just my stubbornness.

Of all the automatics I have driven (this apart from my personal vehicle being a stick since 1977) the one that was almost enjoyable is the one that is the simplest, my wife's current vehicle, which is a 1999 Plymouth Voyager. It has a 2.4L four popper and a very simple 3-speed automatic that the only electronic part is the torque converter lockup. But I don't want an automatic--ever--for my personal vehicle.

Yes, and did. My previous statement still stands. Transmission will never be my main deciding factor unless it's CVT. There's enough about Boaty that entertains the snot out of me that the tranny doesn't factor.

It's my first Chrysler so time will tell if it's a good call. I hear the online crowd jeering Chrysler, but who knows of they're just excited to hear their own computer keys clanking.

Chrysler vehicles that I've driven (when I was at the dealership) were all very nice overall ride and comfort, the problem was always the maintenance and stuff after they weren't new(ish) anymore. We had, at least it felt like it, almost more issues with used Chryslers that we sold than most of the other brands. Though it probably didn't help that there were a disproportionate number of 300s compared to every other Chrysler vehicle. But still. Guess you'll have to see how yours goes over the next longer period of time.

With the dealer I bought mine from there's a lifetime powertrain warranty through CNA (I think that's the name) which, according to the sales person, would cover trans issues and the transfer case. I'm guessing the trans could be the iffy part as this one has the 3.6 pornstar v6 and not the 2.7 sludge monster.

I don't think that the RWD slushboxes were known to give problems and you must have the latest in the long line, the 8-speed.

Yessir. I got the 3.6 AWD, which activates permanently of the ambient temp is below 40. I've managed to kick the ass out a couple times. Pretty sweet.

The funny part is that my mileage roughly matches the 95 Accord 2.2 EX that I had.
